TITLE:                  Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) / Paraprofessional

                             Self-Contained Special Education Classrooms

 

 

PRIMARY

FUNCTION:                             The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Paraprofessional is responsible for performing direct student care and student care related activities, including, but not limited to: personal care (i. toileting, feeding), activities of daily living, and other skills necessary for the student to access the school environment and make progress toward the mastery of individual IEP goals. CNAs may help students access the learning environment by assisting students with mobility limitations and by facilitating the students' learning as directed by the classroom teacher.

CNA’s shall not do classroom coverage in the absence of the classroom teacher.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                  1.  Current CNA license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

                                                2.  Have at least 60 hours of college credit, or pass the ParaPro tests  or have earned a higher education diploma.

                                                3.  Be at least 21 years of age.

                                                4.  Good physical and emotional health.

                                                5.  Possess good character and leadership qualities.

                                                6.  Display an interest and ability in working with students with disabilities.

 

REPORTS TO:                        Building Principal

 

PERFORMANCE

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Maintains confidentiality of medical and educational related        

     concerns in the school setting.

 

2.  Collaborates with student's school nurse, teacher and therapists to    

     help provide a positive educational experience for the student.

 

3.  Demonstrates a professional behavior when interacting with

     school staff, parents and students.

 

4.  Takes educational data while working with a student.

 

5.  Demonstrates effective communication with the student,

     supervising nurse, classroom teacher and co-workers.

 

6.  Maintains current CPR/First Aid and CNA certification.

 

7.  Shows sensitivity to the student’s social, cognitive and mental

     health needs.

 

8.  Reports students concerns to the classroom teacher.

 

9.  Provides escort and transport duties as needed for student care.

 

TERMS OF

EMPLOYMENT:                       Salary and conditions to be established by the School Board.

 

 

EVALUATION:                     Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the School Board’s policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
