JOB DESCRIPTION COORDINATOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION- BFMS (10 Months plus 20 Days)
The Coordinator of Special Education will coordinate and supervise programs and services for students with disabilities.
L.E.A.P. Program Learning, Exploring, and Participating
The L.E.A.P. Program focuses on teaching functional academic and life skills while encouraging increased independence. The coordinator will oversee the sixth-grade L.E.A.P. classroom.
R.I.S.E. Relationship and Interpersonal Skills Education
In the Fall of 2023, FCPS is opening a RISE program in the East Hall of Benjamin Franklin Middle School. This program aims to instruct students with emotional and behavioral challenges that negatively impact their participation in the classroom. The coordinator will collaborate with the teachers, BCBA, and paraprofessionals to provide the social and behavioral skills instruction that they need to successfully return to the regular education setting.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of five (5) years of recent and successful school experience in instruction of students
Reports to: School Administrator and Director of Pupil Personnel Services
Performance Responsibilities:
• Supervise and evaluate teachers of students with disabilities and teacher assistants
• Attend special education coordinator’s meetings each month – GOAL – to coordinate programs and services for students with disabilities in PreK-5 grades
• Participate in curriculum development
• Supervise special education departmental meetings and participate in general education departmental meetings
• Monitor and review Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s)
• Schedule all special education students into appropriate classes according to their respective IEP’s
• Assist with the maintenance of confidential records
• Develop budget recommendations for special education programs/services in their respective buildings
• Assist administrators with discipline issues with special education students and provide positive behavior supports
• Participate in Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA’s), the writing of Behavior Intervention Plans, and supervise Manifestation Determination meetings
• Provide leadership with assistive technology
• Attend eligibility meetings (for initial and triennials)
• Assist general and special education teachers with strategies and techniques to help students who are having difficulty academically and behaviorally
• Coordinate transitional procedures for students with disabilities from the elementary schools to the middle school.
• Provide training and in-service for teachers of students with disabilities where deemed appropriate and necessary
• Perform other duties as assigned by the school administrator and/or Director of Pupil Personnel Services
Terms of Employment: Ten months plus twenty days with salary to be established by the Franklin County School Board.
Evaluation: Performance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations pertaining to the evaluation of certified personnel.
