JOB DESCRIPTION: Pre-K Tutor

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To provide a wide range of tasks in order to promote a high quality preschool environment under the direction of the Pre-K teacher by meeting the needs of all students in a nurturing environment suitable for young children who meet the VPI eligibility requirement of being at-risk. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Hold a high school diploma. Knowledge of and ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing and math.

2. Have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students and parents.

3. Possess general knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching.

 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Health:

1. Manages tooth brushing routines.

2. Assists with toileting.

3. Fosters good eating habits and table manners in children.

4. Teaches and monitors hand washing.

5. Implements Pre-K Health and Safety Checklist.

Social Support of Children:

1. Guides children in working and playing with other children.

2. Helps children to reconcile minor conflicts.

3. Models appropriate behaviors for children.

Academic Support of Children:

1. Provides support during whole group.

2. Leads a small group.

3. Works with individual students.

4. Actively engages with students during learning centers.

5. Reports on student progress to teacher.

6. Views playground as outdoor learning environment.

7. Accompanies students to specials

Safety:

1. Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students.

2. Has knowledge of procedures to follow in the event of an emergency.

3. Keeps all children within eye sight.

4. Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary.

5. Maintains a clean and orderly environment.

6. Implements Pre-K Health and Safety Checklist.

Emotional Support of Children: 

1. Works to provide a warm and nurturing environment.

2. Assists students with becoming increasingly independent

3. Redirects students when needed.

4. Models problem-solving strategies.

5. Has respect for all children.

6. Builds relationships with children.

Ethical:

1. Maintains confidentiality regarding student and parent information.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and conditions to be established by the Franklin County School Board.

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building principal in accordance with the School Board’s policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
