Nurse Coordinator

TITLE:                            Nurse Coordinator

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide leadership in development, implementation, and coordination of a comprehensive program of health services for district. Participation in nursing policy formulation and decision making.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Valid Registered Nurse License from Virginia State Board of Nursing Examiners

Possess and maintain current First Aid and CPR certification

School nursing experience

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

Ability to organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate health services

Ability to implement policies and procedures

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Knowledge of community medical and health services

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

EXPERIENCE:

Five years’ experience as public school nurse

 

REPORTS TO:  Assistant Superintendent

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:

1.      Determine objectives and policies of health program in conjunction with nurses.

2.      Help staff interpret school health and immunizations, communicable diseases, medication, and emergency care of ill and injured

3.      Help school nurse manage all components of campus health services programs.

4.      Consult with campus staff on referrals and provide follow-up services to meet health needs of students.

5.      Participate in the planning of Blood Borne Pathogens training and updates to district staff.

6.      Coordinate activities of the nursing program with the outside agencies and members of medical and health care community to ensure that students have access to adequate health care services.

7.      Attend coordinator meetings with the state health specialist for new updates on state guidelines.

8.      Assume leadership for continuous improvement in the areas of comprehensive student health and development guidance services.

9.      Implement and comply with policies established by federal and state law, Virginia Department of Education, and school board policy in health services area.

10.  Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including accurate updated records of health information for all students and submit to Virginia Department of Education as needed.

11.  Order supplies to help stock clinics.

12.  Recommend purchase, replacement, and repair of equipment to meet needs of campus health clinics.

13.  Help principals evaluate performance of school nurses to ensure effectiveness.

14.  Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation in school services area.

15.  Serve as resource, support, and mentor of staff nurses.

16.  Be aware of medical developments in health fields that could enhance program effectiveness.

17.  Plan and conduct professional development, orientation, training, and certification programs for nurses.

18.  Administer and coordinate the individual screenings of vision, scoliosis, and motor screenings.  Also evaluate, refer, and follow-up as required by Virginia School Law and School Board Regulations.

19.  Provide other health related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT:                       Salary and conditions to be established by the Board.

 

 

EVALUATION:                         Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board’s policy and                                                                       administrative regulations on the evaluation of classified personnel.
