TITLE:                                Assistant Superintendent

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

 

    Hold a Postgraduate Professional License with a Master’s Degree and an endorsement in Administration & Supervision

 

    Have at least five years (5)of experience in school administration and supervision

 

    Professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with the leadership team and all members of the school community

 

    Demonstrated ability in instructional planning, budgeting, legal matters, supervision of instruction, personnel management, and building operations

 

    Five (5) years of teaching experience preferred

 

 

REPORTS TO:      Division Superintendent

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

    The primary function of the Assistant Superintendent shall be to provide leadership assistance in support of the Superintendent for the development, promotion, and implementation of the division’s priorities, goals, and objectives

 

    The Assistant Superintendent shall provide leadership and oversight in aligning administrative functions that engage multiple departments and will work with administrators in charge of those departments to carry out their specific responsibilities

 

    The Assistant Superintendent shall be knowledgeable of current education trends and effective practices, and will work closely with employees, parents, and members of the community to provide a quality educational experience for all students

 

    Act on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools in his / her absence

 

    Support the Superintendent in the development, review, and revision of the division’s strategic plan and in concurrent efforts to measure progress toward its attainment

 

    Provide leadership and assistance in the development and implementation of the budget process (school, department, division, federal programming)

 

    Ensuring compliance and reporting of state and federal regulations / programs that include (SOQ, SOA, Comparability Report)

 

    Monitor and evaluate division wide programs and services

 

    Coordinate accountability efforts through the systematic gathering and reporting of meaningful data regarding the operation of the school division

 

    Assist the Superintendent with public relations and information issues

 

    Make recommendations to the Superintendent for program and policy changes.  Administer, coordinate, develop, and review revisions of the division’s policies and regulations.

 

    Assist with the leadership and oversight of business operations and facility management

 

    Assist in the reporting and compliance process regarding reports of discrimination (Title IX, Office of Civil Rights, harassment, etc.)

 

    Assist in the administration of division insurance policies and compliance

 

    Provide advice and input to the Superintendent on a wide-ranging array of matters to achieve efficient and effective operation of the school division

 

    Serve as a sounding board and provide technical information and assistance to the Superintendent regarding programs, issues, needs, services, and activities

 

    Supervise and coordinate the work of members of the leadership team as directed by the Superintendent

 

    Assist in the development and supervision of the division’s professional development plan

 

    Evaluate members of the leadership team and principals as directed by the Superintendent

 

    Provide feedback to members of the leadership team and recommend program modifications as needed

 

    Attend all School Board meetings / work sessions

 

    Prepare and present reports to the School Board as requested and directed

 

    Assist in the student discipline process as directed by the Superintendent

 

    Assist with the procedures for the closing of any or all schools / facilities in the event of an emergency

 

    To assist in interpreting the division’s instructional program to the community, news media, and other interested parties

 

    To supervise and coordinate the supervision / evaluation system

 

    To supervise and coordinate the instructional program K-12

 

    To assist the directors / supervisors / coordinators with program development and implementation

 

    To assist in the selection of textbooks and instructional materials and the preparation of curriculum guides

 

    To keep the superintendent informed of the effectiveness and needs of the division’s instructional program

 

    To keep abreast of educational development and provide leadership in bringing pertinent innovative programs, seminars and / or workshops into the school division

 

    To assist in evaluating staffing needs

 

    To plan and implement, in association with others, the initial orientation of new teachers

 

    To assist in the determination of personnel allotment to the various schools

 

    To administer and implement school board personnel policies / regulations

 

    To serve as the superintendent’s designee in hearing grievances as outlined in the grievance procedure

 

    Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools

 

 

TERMS OF

EMPLOYMENT:    Twelve month year.  Salary to be established by the board

 

 

EVALUATION:      Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance

                                 with the provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of

                                 administrative personnel
