JOB DESCRIPTION: Family Liaison

 

 

Primary Function:

    To build the capacity of families whose children are at-risk for academic failure

    To serve students who have risk factors that put them in danger of adverse social, behavioral, and academic outcomes. These students may be failing classes, have high absenteeism, may feel disengaged from school, can exhibit challenging behaviors that cause them to miss instruction, and/or may be dealing with severe cultural difficulties typical of transitioning to a new school. Other risk factors can include children living in poverty, homeless families, single parent households, families with mental health or cognitive concerns and children that may be at risk of out of home placement. 

 

 

Qualifications:  

    Bachelor’s degree in a human services field (i.e. counseling, social work, psychology

    Experience working with at-risk children is preferred.

 

 

Reports to: Building Principal/Administrator and MH Coordinator

 

 

Performance Responsibilities:

    Serve as a liaison between the school and students with their families to assist in resolving student issues that interfere with learning

    Foster self-esteem and promote positive behavior patterns and discipline in working with students to assist their education and growth.

    Convey respect for individual student differences and have an understanding of how individual values, interests, and skills lead to different choices, opportunities, and barriers. 

    Work with the school personnel and family to expose students to areas of potential interest with opportunity and goals to develop greater mastery. 

    Participate as an RTI team member for specific student problems; assist in resolving issues with purposeful interactions with parents and other family members as necessary.

    Having working knowledge of community-based resources from which parents may benefit and assist families with their access

    Develop, monitor and evaluate individual student behavior plan (informal) for effectiveness in the classroom and its effect on maximizing learning

    Ensure effective communication among school personnel, the student and their family, school supports, and community resources

 

 

Terms of Employment: Conditions and salary to be established by HR and the Franklin County School Board.

 

 

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certified personnel.
