Assistant Shop Foreman

TITLE: ASSISTANT SHOP FOREMAN

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assist in the supervision of the repair and preventive maintenance program for the school division's fleet of vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have five (5) years of experience as a full-time mechanic, all or part of which should have been as a truck mechanic.

2. Must demonstrate leadership ability in previous work experience.

3. Must be experienced in ordering and/or purchasing parts.

4. Must possess a state inspector's ,license for the state of Virginia. _ ·

5. Must possess a good driving record and have a Virginia driver's license permit with a "S" classification, or will meet this requirement upon employment.

 

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Transportation

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. To assist in supervising the diagnosing, assigning and repairing of district automotive equipment.

2. To establish an efficient and effective system of routine bus and automotive maintenance and preventive care.

3. To lay out, assign, supervise and inspect the work of the mechanics in the overhaul and repair of automotive equipment.

4. To assist in the recruitment, screening, training and evaluation of garage employees.

5. To promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work areas.

6. To supervise the purchasing of all tools, parts and supplies for the garage.

7. To keep abreast of all new developments in bus transportation.

8. To supervise the state inspection of vehicles.

9. To drive a school bus when there are not enough subsitutes to cover the routes when drivers are absent.

10. To be on call in the event of a mechanical problem with any of the vehicles in the school bus fleet.

11. To accept any additional duties deemed necessary for the safe and orderly operation of the transportation fleet.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and conditions to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of supervisory personnel.
