JOB DESCRIPTION: Remediation Tutor

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To provide reading and math intervention for students in K-5 in collaboration with classroom instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Hold an associate’s degree or the equivalent of two years of college or demonstrated, through the state assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing and math.

2. Have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students and parents.

3. Possess general knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching.

 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Discusses assigned teaching area with Instructional Coach and classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.

2. Collaborates regularly with classroom teacher and Instructional Coach on reading/writing/math instruction for students.

3. Prepares lessons using curriculum resources.

4. Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids such as hands-on manipulatives, reading materials, and writing materials.

5. Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques for guided reading, writing, and guided math.

6. Attends training workshops.

7. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts by:

•       Direct instruction of the components of reading and math

•       Modeling strategies for reading and math.

8. Performs other duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and conditions to be established by the Franklin County School Board.

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building principal in accordance with the School Board’s policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
