Shop Foreman

Title:      Shop Foreman

 

Primary Function: To supervise the repair and preventive maintenance program for

                             the school division’s fleet of school buses & automobiles.

 

Qualifications:

   1. Five (5) years of experience as a full-time mechanic, all or part of

    which should have been as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic                 .

   2. Demonstrated leadership ability in work experience.

   3. Oversee and manage ordering and/or purchasing parts.

   4. Possesses a state inspector’s license for the state of Virginia.

   5. Possess a good driving record and have a Virginia  CDL license   with  “P” and “S”

    endorsements or will meet the requirement upon employment.

 

Reports To:  Director of Operations & Supervisor of Transportation

 

Performance Responsibilities:

1. To supervise the diagnosing, assigning and repair of district buses & automotive fleet

2. To establish an efficient and effective system of routine bus and automotive

  maintenance and preventive care.

3. To lay out, assign, supervise and inspect the work of the mechanics.

4. To assist in the recruitment, screening, training and evaluation of garage employees.

5. To promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work

  areas.

6. To supervise the purchasing of all tools, parts and supplies for the garage.

7. To keep abreast of all new development in the bus transportation industry.

8. To supervise the state inspection of vehicles.

9. To drive a school bus when there are not enough substitutes to cover the routes

when drivers are absent.

10. To be on call in the event of a mechanical problem with any of the vehicles in the

   school bus fleet.

11. To accept any additional duties deemed necessary for the safe and orderly

  operation of the transportation fleet.

 

Terms of Employment: Twelve month year. Salary and conditions to be established by

                                     the Board.                       $29,000 - $61,799

 

Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in the accordance with

                   the Board’s policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of

                   classified personnel.
