FACS Teacher

TITLE:    Family & Consumer Sciences/Culinary Arts Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Virginia State Teacher License Granted or eligible for a Provisional License.

2. Bachelor’s Degree with major or minor in FACS.

3. Demonstrable skills in food preparation, early childhood education, and home planning.

4. ServSafe certification or working towards ServSafe certification.

 

REPORTS TO:      Principal, Supervisor of CTE, and Building Administrator 

JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil an awareness of the importance of a good home environment as a basis for satisfactory home and family living; to motivate each pupil to acquire competencies, knowledge, and skills relating to culinary arts, child development, clothing and textiles, consumer education, family relations, food-nutrition, home nursing, safety, home decoration and household equipment; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in Family & Consumer Sciences fields.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

1.  Teaches concepts and skills in food preparation and cooking– Introduction to Culinary Arts.

2.  Teaches concepts and skills in the teaching and caring for young people – Introduction to Early Childhood Education.

3.  Teaches concepts and skills in food and nutrition, early childhood education, clothing and textiles, home management, family relationships, and consumer education – Introduction to Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS).

4.  Teaches students grades 9 - 12, utilizing competencies provided by the VDOE.

5.  Serves as an advisor for co-curriculum student organization – FCCLA.

6.  Attend all faculty, department, and committee meetings.

7.  Perform duties as assigned for student supervision.
