 JOB DESCRIPTION: PALS Tutor

 PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 To provide reading intervention for students in K-3 in collaboration with classroom instruction.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

 1. Must be at least 21 years of age

2. Possess a GED, high school diploma, or higher

3. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students and parents.

4. Possess general knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Discusses assigned teaching area and student responsibilities with Instructional Coach

2.       Will work with Instructional Coach to ensure Screening requirements are met by all students K-3rd following the county testing calendar.

3.       Work with the Intervention Specialist to review the screening data bands and ranges to make sure each identified students receives at least 2 ½ hours of weekly intervention

4.       Collaborates regularly with the Student Intervention Specialist to coordinate remediation materials.

5.       Will work with the Student Intervention Specialist to align lesson plans with intervention/remediation goals and core instruction.

6.       Work with Student Intervention Specialist to plan, prepare, and develop various multisensory methods to deliver remediation

7.       Will attend training workshops and work sessions with Student Intervention Specialist

8.       May assist students, individually, in groups, or inside the core classroom to reinforce basic learning concepts of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

9.       Will use county provided curriculum to meet each students’ individual needs.

10.   Will monitor student progress using PALs Quick Checks or other assessments approved by the county.

11.   Assists Instruction Coach and teachers with routine tasks such as:

a.       Entering student information into the online database

b.       Fire drills

c.       Special Events

12.   Performs other duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  A range of 120-180 days - Salary and conditions to be established by the Franklin County School Board.

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building principal in accordance with the School Board’s policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
