Assistant Supervisor of Building and Grounds

TITLE: ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To maintain school plants and grounds and all other school board buildings and property in a condition of operational excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1. Must possess the skills necessary for planning, budgeting and implementing a program of building maintenance throughout the school division.

2. Must demonstrate both leadership and teamwork abilities in previous work experience.

3. Must possess enough combined training and experience in the specialities of heating, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing repair and general carpentry to provide knowledgeable supervision of employees in these specialities.

4. Must have a combination of experience of ten years or more in the following:

a. Work as a building contractor or subtractor

b. Formal training in HVAC and electrical work

c. Work as a plumber or plumber's helper

d. Work experience in the installation and repair of HVAC and/or major appliances

e. Work as a general maintenance employee in industry or for a school division

REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities and Transportation

 

PERFORMANCE

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Supervisor of Building and Grounds and/or in the absence of the Supervisor of Building and Grounds:

1. To examine buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance. 

2. To establish and recommend priorities on repair projects.

3. To assign and supervise crews for maintenance work.

4. To estimate cost of repair projects in terms of labor, materials and overhead and order materials as needed.

5. To coordinate all activities with E.P.A., D.E.Q., Virginia Department of Health and other appropriate agencies to insure compliance.

6. To develop and maintain a system for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency.

7. To authorize purchases of supplies and equipment and assist in the development of the annual budget for maintenance of buildings and grounds.

8. To take responsibility for the recruitment, training and the supervision of all maintenance personnel and make recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion and release.

9. To consult with school principals on specific maintenance problems and physical plant needs.

10. To advise on the hiring of contractors to perform necessary maintenance or repair service.

11. To attend appropriate meetings and conferences and strive to keep technical skills up to date.

12. To maintain blueprints, drawings and plans necessary for maintenance operations. 

13. To maintain the data associated with work orders on our computerized software system.

14. To perform other duties as necessary.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and conditions to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy and adminstrative regulations on evaluation of supervisory personnel.
