Director of Operations

The Director of Operations serves as a leader for the school division overseeing daily operations and managing an operations team for the departments of maintenance, transportation and food service. The Director also manages the school safety initiatives. This position is focused on building and transportation management, budget oversight, monthly governmental reporting, school communications, school safety, policies and procedures and events.

 

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will focus relentlessly on putting teachers’ needs first, by creating high-quality school operations systems and following through to the smallest details.  He or she must be a highly intelligent, driven individual with a warm character and exceptional integrity, and must thrive as part of a highly motivated, committed team.

 

§  Minimum 5 years of professional school based leadership experience or relevant occupational experience in business and industry in one of the departments supervised, with school-based experience in operations preferred

§  Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships and motivate a team

§  Excellent team player, with willingness to be hands-on

§  Strong project management skills to lead complete projects to successful completion

§  Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills in tackling organizational problems

§  Tremendous organizational skills and attention to detail

§  A positive, high-energy attitude and a drive for personal excellence

§  Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred

 

 

Management/Responsibilities

§  Partner with the Superintendent to represent Franklin County Public Schools (FCPS) with external constituency groups, including community, governmental and private organizations

§  Manage the school operation’s team members and provide professional development

§  Manage activities across the school operations team, including parent communication, construction/renovations/maintenance, supplies procurement and events

§  Establish and maintain productive relationships with school staff, vendors and parents

§  Train, coach and enforce FCPS standards, policies and procedures

§  Oversee logistics for division-wide events

§  Establish systems and procedures in coordination with the supervisors of maintenance, transportation and food service to ensure student safety, nutrition and an appropriate and conducive learning environment

§  Provide effective and inspiring leadership, as well as stewardship, of FCPS by being actively involved in all programs and services

§  Implement and lead a continuous quality improvement process throughout the program and service areas, focusing on systems/process improvement 

§  Promote regular and ongoing opportunities for all staff to give feedback on program operations

§  Lead a high-performing team of supervisors and employees to the next level by further developing and implementing recruitment, training and retention strategies.

§  Ensure that all program activities operate consistently and ethically within the mission and values of FCPS

§  Cooperate with the supervisor, principals and parents in solving bus disciplinary problems

§  Maintain a plan for the upgrading of the bus fleet and vehicle pool

§  Plan for the annual auction of surplus vehicles, equipment and materials

§  To monitor the system for training new and experienced drivers

§  Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent

 

 

Policies and Procedures

§  Implement effective operation and communication-related procedures/policies

§  Establish and maintain health and safety protocols including school safety plan, evacuation and crisis plans and fire-drill routes

 

 

Finance, Procurement and Technology

§  Prepare and submit an annual operational budget to the Director of Business and Finance and Superintendent for review and approval, manage effectively within this budget and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.

§  Manage annual budget and track expenditures in conjunction with the Department of Business and Finance

§  Ensure the continued financial viability of maintenance, transportation and food service through sound fiscal management; provide programmatic leadership and input for all strategic planning processes with the Superintendent and staff

§  Manage procurement process by working with the Purchasing Department on vendor selection and contracts as needed
