Special Education CAIP Paraprofessional (self-contained)

(Communication for Autism Inclusion Program)

Salary Range:                       $12.72 - $20.35 per hour

 

Classroom Description:

CAIP is a self-contained, special education classroom for autistic students who have no functional communication.  Here, students will learn functional communication skills, while working on social skills and general education grade-level curriculum.  The goal is that our students with autism will transition to their Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

 

Qualifications:

  Possess high school diploma

  Pass the ParaPro test

  Be at least 21 years of age

  Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles/strategies (training provided)

  Knowledge of assistive technology for functional communication (PECS, voice output, etc.) (training provided)

  Ability to follow explicit instructions from the classroom teacher

  Possess good character and leadership qualities

  Be in good physical and emotional health

  Display a genuine interest and ability in working with students with autism

 

Reports to:

  Principal

  Classroom Teacher

  Autism Specialist

 

Performance Responsibilities:

Classroom

  Follow the explicit instructions of the classroom teacher to do the following:

  Work two to one with students with autism (two students/1 paraprofessional)

  Implement student academic, communication, and behavior supports

  Provide instructional support using evidence-based practices

  Support the use of assistive technology for communication (PECS, voice output device, etc.)

  Collect academic, communication, and behavior data

  Support students outside of the classroom (specials, assemblies, field trips, etc.)

  Provide daily living support to students (included, but not limited to breakfast, lunch, snack, cleanup; toileting, wiping, changing of diapers, pull-ups, clothes; etc.)

  Use individualized reinforcement techniques to help each student succeed

  Prepare classroom materials for individual lessons

  Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment

  Comply with designated work hour schedules

  Comply with assignments and extracurricular duties

  Comply with school board policies and State laws relative to special education classroom operations

 

Terms of Employment:  Ten-months a year with salary to be established by the Franklin County School Board

 

Evaluation:        Performance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the School Board’s policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
