RESOLUTION NO. 87-3

WHEREAS, the Governor has determined that Oregon will nominate two sites for the construction of the world's largest and most advanced particle accelerator known as the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC); and

WHEREAS, an area of Linn County designated as "University Site" has been determined through preliminary evaluation as suitable for construction of the 52-mile long tunnel and associated research facilities; and

WHEREAS, the benefits of the selection of Linn County for this internationally Significant research facility will include the employment of 4,500 to 7,000 construction workers and technicians and the expenditure of $4.4 billion over six to ten years and the continuing employment of 2,500 persons and annual expenditures of $200-$250 million.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Sodaville, that the nomination of Linn County as the site of the Superconducting Super Collider be enthusiastically endorsed and this City commit itself to assist the Governor's SSC Task Force to prepare the best possible evaluation of the Linn County site.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this City will welcome the persons employed in the construction and operation of the SSC and will take steps appropriate to provide services needed by such new residents.
