City Recorder's Update
Online Water Bill Payments
You asked, and we answered! Beginning in September, your city water utility began accepting payments online! Just head to www.sodaville.org and pay your water bill straight from the homepage. We accept credit/debit cards, PayPal, and Venmo.
Election Day is November 8th, but the Secretary of State will mail ballots to voters between October 19th-25th. Postage is prepaid, but ballots can be physically returned at several locations in Linn County, including the Linn County Courthouse in Albany, or the nearest location, the Lebanon Public Library.
CITY HALL HOURS
I have heard some concerns about whether City Hall is actually open since a car is rarely in the parking lot. While I maintain regular office hours of 8AM-2PM during the week, I take the bus to work, so my car is rarely parked there. If you want to ensure that City Hall is open, call my personal cell (541-805-2630) or the office. I appreciate listening to the community’s questions!
FRIENDLY CITY ORDINANCE REMINDERS
City property and parks are CLOSED from dusk until dawn.
Absolutely NO alcohol, drugs, or cigarettes are allowed on city properties or in parks.
Please maintain your lawns, keep all grass & weeds below 10” tall.
Please keep all grass, weeds & blackberry bushes out of ditches & out of roadways lining your property.
Quiet time is from 9PM until 6AM, please be respectful to others. This includes EXCESSIVE dog barking!
While walking your dog, clean up your dog’s poo in the yard/driveway they use. YOU ARE ON CAMERA!
If your trashcan spills over into the streets and ditches, please clean it up.
Vendors who wish to use City facilities for garage sales, merchant sales, food sales, etc. require written permission from the City Recorder. The fee is $25 for residents within City limits and $50 for vendors outside of City limits. Proof of liability insurance is required in order to receive permission for sales. Contact City Hall prior to holding events on City property to ensure that facilities are available for use and paperwork may be processed.
Thank you everyone for keeping Sodaville clean and a beautiful place to live for all of us!!
Public Works Update
Yes water restrictions are still in effect. We are now having water hauled in.
October facts
The meaning behind October’s name is far from accurate these days. The ancient Roman calendar was based on the lunar cycles, as opposed to our current calendar which is based on the solar cycles. This meant that there were originally 10 months in their calendar, and October was the eighth month. Its name literally translated into “the eighth month” in Latin.
In 451 BC the two months of Ianurarius and Februarius were added to the beginning of the calendar, making October the 10th month.
If you live in the northern hemisphere, you’ll be rewarded for keeping your eyes to the skies in October, as the Draconid Meteor Shower can be seen. It contains a single comet that is visible exclusively in the northern hemisphere between October 6th and 10th.
An even more impressive meteor shower that is visible in both hemispheres is the Orionid meteor shower, which runs from October 2nd until early November. It is named after Orion as it is usually visible in the same part of the sky as the constellation. At the peak of the meteor shower, as many as 20 meteors are visible every hour.
Some of the wackier holidays that are celebrated in the US deserved their own listing, and we’re sure you’ll agree!
October 4th is National Noodle Day, October 16th is National Fossil Day, Sweetest Day is on the 17th, and Boss’s Day is celebrated on October 19th.
