Inequality

•       For some it’s economic, for others it’s social. 不完全是經濟因素，只有一半左右的人是失業，社會因素也很重要

•       A little more than half are unemployed

Injustice and Inequality.

•       Young people mention lack of opportunities, felt socially disadvantaged and peripheral.讓年輕人失去希望

Social Media

•       Widespread availability of social media and mobile phone technology.社交媒體的便利性與手機的科技使用

•       Some commentator raise significant concern about role of Twitter, FB and BlackBerry Messenger (BBM). 主要是社群媒體對於暴動的組織與擴散層面

•       BlackBerry Messenger, Twitter and TV. 本文提出不同觀點，來看BBM、Twitter跟電視在這次暴動中不同的腳色、功能、以及重要性

BlackBerry Messenger

•       The first disturbance in Tottenham on Sat.

•       Efficient and Secure communication network.便宜、有效而安全，門檻相對低了許多

•       While government debated whether to shut down FB and Twitter, BBM play a substantive role in the riot.持續地、而有效地散布資訊，包含沒有使用FB、Twitter的人都可以收到。

•       It’s easier than FB and Twitter.

Twitter

•       Playing a different role, Tweets support and incite the riots.由於twitter可以放較多文字，民眾可以知道現場情況，讓暴動受到更多支持

•       Several politicians suggested the network should be shut down, but the response to the tweets was overwhelming negative.

•       Organise community clean-up operations集體以刪文抵抗，造成部分資料流失

TV

•       傳統媒體中，電視扮演事件的重要角色

•       100/270 referred to hearing about riot via TV.

•       Somebody referred that TV news had encouraged them to get involved especially outside London.電視畫面讓民眾更有接近感，更容易投入暴動中

What’s Next   未來研究的第二階段

•       Will look at the riots impact on local media, and at the criminal justice response to the disturbance.

•       Community debates and discussions on local media.研究在地媒體的討論，來了解社區如何被影響

•       Policing and court working.警方的訪問對象分兩部分:第一線與指揮階級。看警方內部的決策過程，以及前線如何溝通部署，來了解暴動發生時警方的動員情形。法庭的訪問則是針對當時大量的人(2000)遭到逮捕與起訴，600多人有罪，300多人遭監禁，希望透過訪談來了解當時法庭上如何處理爆量的問題，是否有特殊性。
