ここにある小さな森は、須賀神社のあとです。須賀神社には、午頭天王様(ごぜてんのうさま)という神様がまつられていました。江戸時代には、神社を中心とした地区の租税が免除される制度があり、須賀神社の周辺も租税が免除されていました。そのため、いまでもこの付近のことを「天王免(てんのうめん)」と呼ぶことがあります。須賀神社では、きうり(野菜のキューリ)まつりというお祭りがおこなわれ、こどもすもう大会などでたいへんにぎわったそうです。須賀神社は、昭和17年東京都の用地買収にともない移転しました。

みずもと公園

The small forest here is ruins of the Suga Jinja (Suga Shrine). Suga Jinja was dedicated to a deity Goze-tennou. In the Edo period, there was a tax exemption system for districts centered on Jinja, the area around Suga Jinja was exempted from taxes. For this reason, this area is still sometimes called "Tenno-men" (Tenno exemption). Suga Jinja used to hold a "Kyuri (cucumber) Festival" with children's Sumo tournaments and other events. Suga Jinja was relocated in Showa 17th (1942) when the Tokyo Metropolitan Government acquired the land here.
