江戸幕府は元和2年(1616)に、利根川と江戸川に松戸・市川・川俣・房川渡など16の定船場を設置、旅行者がそこ以外で往来することを禁止しました。この関所は水戸街道が江戸川を渡る地点に設置されたもので、水戸街道に置かれた唯一の関所です。常時4名の関所役人が置かれ厳重に取り締まりました。1869年（明治2年）に関所が廃止された後、関所の建物は全て取り壊され、2003年（平成15年）3月、東京都下水道局金町ポンプ所の隣に「金町関所跡之記」の石碑が建てられました。関所で使われていた関所印や硯箱は葛飾区郷土と天文の博物館に保存されています。

In Genna 2 (1616), the Edo Tokugawa shogunate set up 16 fixed ferry docks on the Tone River and Edo River such as Matsudo, Ichikawa, Kawamata, prohibiting travelers from coming and going through anywhere else. This checkpoint was set at the point where the Mito Kaido crosses the Edo River, and is the only checkpoint located on the Mito Kaidom and four officials were here to crack down on travelers. The checkpoint was abolished in Meiji 2 (1869), and all the buildings of the checkpoint were demolished, and this stone monument was set in March, Heisei 15 (2003). The stamp and Suzuri-bako (inkstone case) used at this checkpoint are preserved in the Katsushika City Museum.
