いかりや長介は本名は碇矢長一(いかりやちょういち)で、1931年11月1日に生まれました。1962年にポップバンド "ザ・ドリフターズ"に加入します。メンバーの加入・脱退が繰り返され、最終的に彼はバンドのリーダーになります。そして1966年には、日本武道館のビートルズのコンサートで前座をつとめました。1969年からは伝説的なお笑い番組『8時だョ!全員集合』が始まり、最も人気のバラエティ番組となりました。1985年にこの番組が終わった後、彼は役者としてのキャリアをスタートし、1999年には日本アカデミー賞も受賞しています。2004年3月30日、リンパ節癌により亡くなりました。享年72歳。

Chosuke Ikariya was a famus Japanese comedian and film actor, and leader of the comedy group The Drifters. He was born Choichi Ikariya in November 1st, 1931. In 1962, Ikariya joined pop band "The Drifters". Members joined and quit the band over the next two years and finally he became the leader of the band. The Drifters performed opening act for The Beatles at the Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo in 1966. The Drifters started a weekly commedy show "Hachiji dayo, Zenin Shugo!"(It's 8 o'clock, everyone to gather!!) which became one of the most popular shows of its time. He started his acting career from 1985 and played a variety of roles on television and in movies. He got a prize "Japan Academy Award" in 1999. He was passed away on March 20, 2004 at the age of 72 by cancer of the lymph nodes.
