登美の松

Tomi no Matsu (Tomi's pine tree)

この松の木は、徳川幕府第三代将軍家光公が参詣に訪れた折に、家光公自らの手によって植えられたものです。命名は第八代将軍吉宗公です。傍らにある登美の松碑は勝海舟の揮毫です。現在の松は二代目で、昭和44年(1969年)に植樹されました。

This pine tree was planted by Tokugawa Hidemitsu's hisself who was Tokugawa Shogunate third general Shogun when he visited the pilgrimage. It's named by Tokugawa Yoshimune who was Tokugawa Shogunate eighth general Shogun. The calligraphy of monument at the side of the tree is hand writing by Katsu Kaishu. Katsu Kaishu was a very famous samurai and politician from the late Edo period to the early Meiji period. The current tree is the second generation and was planted in Showa 44 (1969).
