中島守利(なかしまもりとし)は、明治10年(1877)に葛飾区新宿の農家の長男として生まれました。独学で学問を修め、新宿郵便局長、新宿町長、東京府議会議員を務め、衆議院議員を5期務めましたが、京成電車疑獄事件に連座して議員を失格しました。しかし戦後、2再度衆議院議員に当選し35期務めました。この銅像は、出身地の新宿に郷土の先覚者として建てられたものです。

Mr. Moritoshi Nakashima was born in Meiji 10 (1877) as the eldest son of a farmer in Niijuku, Katsushika. He learn studies by himself, and he acted the director of the Niijuku Post Office, the mayor of Niijuku, a member of the Tokyo Prefectural Assembly, and a member of the House of Representatives for five terms. He was disqualified a member of parliament because he was involved in a bribery scandal of Keisei Electric Railway "Keisei Densha Gigoku Jiken". After the World War , he was a member of the House of Representatives again for three terms. This statue was built in Niijuku as a pioneer of his hometown.
