明治初期頃、亀有付近に常磐線が開通しました。当時は1時間に1本しか走っていないのに、夜になると運行時刻以外に走る汽車が目撃されました。ある日汽車の運転車が正面から進んでくる汽車に遭遇します。しかし、線路脇に狢の死骸が見つかってからは、ぱったりとそのような不思議なことが起こらなくなりました。そのため村人は、おそらく狢が汽車に化けて線路を走っていたから本数が増えたのだろうと、そしてたまたま本物の汽車に撥ねられて死んでしまったのだろう考えました。そこで見性寺の住職が憐れに思って、塚を建てたということです。現在の石碑は、昭和28(1953)年に作られたもので、当時あったとされる塚の所在などは定かではないということです。

In the early Meiji period, the Joban Line was launched near Kameari. At that time, although there was a only one train every hourn, some running trains were witnessed in the nigh out-of-service time. But one day the dead badger was found beside the railroad track, after that, such a mysterious thing no longer occurd. Villagers thought the badger turn itself into a train and run on the track. Unfortunately the badger was hit by train and died. The chief priest of Kenshou-ji temple was sorry for that and built this stone monument. The current stone monument was made in Showa (1953), and unknown where the original stone monument is now.
