寛保元年(1741)、徳川将軍家の御膳所寺である南蔵院の妙本という尼さんが、金龍山浅草寺を深く信仰して千日詣を成し遂げました。その時、金色燦燦と輝ける観世音菩薩が現れ、「汝の願い正に叶う可し、喜び多く向わんと」と言って姿を消しました。そのお礼にと建てられたのが喜多向観音です。

In Kanpo 1st (1741), a buddhist nun named Myomoto of Nanzoin deeply worshiped Kongousan Sensoji Temple and accomplished a thousand days of prayers. Then, Avalokiteshvara appeared and said "Your wish will come true, and you will have a lot of joy." Kitamuki Kannon (Kitamuki Avalokiteshvara) was built in gratitude.
