加藤ひな子(雛子)は、安政4年(1857)生まれの、幕末から明治期にかけて活躍した事業家です。ひな子自身も芸事に秀でており、幼い頃から歌舞演劇界に入りました。明治41年(1908)に設立された帝国女優養成所の副所長に就任、女優の養成と劇界の改革に心血を注ぎ、演劇界を代表する女優を育てました。明治42年8月に演劇事情を視察するため欧米へひとり旅立ちましたが、11月26日、旅先のアメリカ・ボストンで突然の発作を起こし、その年の暮れにボストン市の病院にて客死、53歳で生涯を終えました。加藤ひな子の碑は、彼女を顕彰して、三回忌にあたる明治44年(1911)に、財界・演劇界・門弟一同によって建てられました。

Hinako Kato was born in Ansei 4 (1857) who was an entrepreneur active from the end of Edo to Meiji period. She herself has excelent skill in arts, and entered the Kabuki theater world from an early age. The Imperial Actress Training Center was established in Meiji 41 (1908), she was inaugurated as the deputy director, and she devoted herself to training actresses and reforming the theater world, and raised actresses who represent the theater world. In August 1902, she left alone to Europe and the United States to observe the theater world situation, but on November 26, she suddenly suffered a seizure in Boston, the United States, and died at a hospital in Boston at the end of the year, ending her life at the age of 53. The monument was built for her honor in Meiji 44 (1911) when the second anniversary of death, by the business world, the theater world, and the disciples of her.
