大正時代から昭和30年代までは、葛飾区では田を利用してナガハスという元々日本にあった日本ハスが作られ、料亭などに納められてきました。しかし、日本ハスは水質汚染に弱く、1964年東京オリンピック以後、水質汚染が進んみ栽培出来ない状況になりました。水辺のいきもの館の東側にはハス池には、直径40cmほどのハスの葉が一面に茂り、7月中旬～8月中旬に見頃を迎えます。池の中央には橋が架かり、また池の周囲からもハスを間近で眺めることが出来ます。水元公園のハス池は、都内でも屈指のハスの名所になっています。

From the Taisho era to the Showa era 30's in Katsushika, Japanese Nelumbo nucifera called "Nagahas" was originally made in Japan using rice fields, and it was delivered to Japanese restaurant. However, "Nagahas" are vulnerable to water pollution, and after the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, water pollution has progressed and it has become impossible to cultivate. On the east side of the Aquatic Life Center, there is the lotus pond covered by leaves about 40 cm in diameter, and is in full bloom from mid-July to mid-August. There is a bridge in the center of the pond, you can see the lotus up close from the bridge and around the pond. The lotus pond in Mizumoto Park is one of the most famous spots for lotus in Tokyo.
