新八水路は、江戸川河川敷に残された用水路で、古くはこの水路を介して柴又用水へ導く農業水路として使われていました。埋め立てて駐車場とする計画がありましたが、地域の人々によって水路が再生され、貴重な自然が残る水辺として復元、自主再生を目指して保全されています。また、年に数回、魚類調査と外来種駆除も行われています。

The Shinhachi Canal is an irrigation canal on the riverbed of the Edo River (Edo-gawa) which was used as an agricultural canal leads to Shibamata irrigation in ancient times. There was a plan to reclaim as a parking lot, but it was kept and regenerated by the local people and restored as a precious nature remains, and is being maintained for voluntary regeneration. Fish surveys and extermination of alien species are also conducted several times a year.
