森市地蔵・入定塚

Moriichi Jizo and Nyujo-zuka

この入定塚は森市という行者の終焉の地です。彼はこの地の村人に大変尊敬された行者でした。彼はある時、自己の天寿を悟り、お世話になった村人らの繁栄を祈願して入定しました。入定とは、生きながらに墓穴に入り即身仏となって命を断つことです。経文を唱え、鉦を打ち、その音は三日三晩続いたと伝えられます。村人は彼の死を哀み、お地蔵さんを祀り供養しました。

This Nyujo-zuka (Nyujo Mound) is is the place of Moriichi's death. He was a very respected ascetic in the village of this area. On one occasion, he spiritually awakened his natural term of existence, he did "Nyujo" to pray to prosperity of the villagers. "Nyujo" is entering the grave in stil aliving and becomes self-made mummy. The sutra and gong sounds had been comming from the grave for three days and nights. Villagers mourned his passing, and built the Jizo Buddha for his soul.
