『男はつらいよ』は、葛飾柴又と日本各地を舞台にした映画です。昭和44年(1969)の第1作から全50作品が作られました。1999年に建てられたこの銅像は、第40作「寅次郎サラダ記念日」の中で、旅に出る寅さんが、さくらの方に振り返るシーンをモチーフにしています。

The movie "Otoko wa Tsurai yo (It's tough being a man)" is a movie set in Katsushika Shibamata and various areas in Japan. The first movie was released in Showa 44 (1969), total 50 works have been made. This statue was built in 1999. It is based on the scene which he looks back toward Sakura when goes on a journey, in which 40th movie "Torajiro Salad Anniversary."
