スダジイは、ブナ科シイ属の常緑広葉樹です。幹の片側には表皮がなく木質部は朽ちていますが、反対側は幹肌も生き生きしており、太枝が伸び細かく分枝して、葉の繁もきわめて良い状態です。樹齢は約420年と推定されます。

Castanopsis sieboldii is an evergreen broad-leaved tree of the genus Castanopsis in the family Fagaceae. There is no bark on one side and is decayed, but on the other side, the trunk skin is lively, the thick branches grow finely, and the leaf growth is extremely good. The age of the tree is estimated to be about 420 years.
