The old Sumida River used to flow in this area which was the border between Musashi and Shimousa. In the Edo period, the Mito-Sakura Road through here branched off from Senju-juku, and split into Mito Road and Sakura Road at Niijuku, Katsushika. The current name of the town is Nishi-kameari, but in the Edo period, it was called Kamichiba Village and Sunahara Village. In this area, medieval mansions had been excavated which was very few in the lowlands of Tokyo, and it is estimated since the 14th century. The name Kamichiba and Sunahara are still used today as the name of schools and parks.
