Biographie in English

Gilberto Isella is an author from Lugano, Switzerland. A poet, essayist and translator, he is vice-president of Italian Switzerland's Pen Club and a member of the publishing team of the literary magazine Bloc notes, of which he was one of the promotors in 1979. He also contributes to various newspapers and magazines as a literary critic. He is interested both in authors from the past (from Dante to Ariosto) and in contemporary authors (Piero Bigongiari, Guido Ceronetti, Jacques Dupin, etc.).

He was also involved with cinema and theater, for which he wrote various plays. His work is included in a number of anthologies; he won the Schiller Prize 2007; and in 2008 he was featured in the magazine Quaderni grigionitaliani . As a translator, he published, among other books, Stupore celeste / Ciel étonné, an anthology of poems by Charles Racine in 2001, and Scarto from Jacques Dupin in 2011. At the same time, he is an active contributor to Traduzionetradizione, an international magazine featuring poetic translations.

He has authored some twenty books; among the latest are Preludio e corrente per Antoni (2012), translated into Catalan under the title Preludi i corrente per a Antoni (2016); Caro aberrante fiore (2013); Mobilune (2015); Liturgia minore (2015); and L'occhio piegato(2015).
