Hand Sanitizers and Covid at E&S

In September 2021, at E&S, since our first year back they have introduced new procedures and safety protocols for Covid-19: indoor masking required, social distancing, nurses, covid vax, etc....following with more hand sanitizers in the hallway.

One major change is the abundance of hand sanitizing stations around school. Adonis Williams, a middle school student, doesn’t think anything of the hand sanitizers when passing them by but does still think they are necessary and are working.

“I...don’t notice them” Adonis continues, “because my first thing when I go into the hallway is like do what you gotta do so sometimes when I do see them ---- You said do you think their working? Umm, yes.”

Unlike Adonis though, senior highschooler, Sofia, says she’s been trying to use them but they are not refilling the hand sanitizers as much as they should.

“I’ve tried to use some of them” says Sofia, “but some of them are empty or just don’t work.”

Both Sofia and Adonis have similar answers when it came to catching Covid and the students in the school. Both Sofia and Adonis could agree that no students, so far this year, have not catch Covid. Even though these students haven’t caught Covid, both Adonis and Sofia have family that has caught Covid before the school started. For Sofia, her dad.

“I know someone who did.. But my Dad had it.”

… and for Adonis, both his parents.

“So, both of my parents have caught Covid...”

Let’s hope these hand sanitizers protect anyone in school from catching Covid and not lead similar fates Sofia’s and Adonis’ parents had to go through. I questioned Adonis “How have you been being more clean since Covid started” and this is what he said:

“Uh, keep my distance… and not touch other people and wear my mask at all times.”

I also asked Sofia the same question and this is what she had to say:

“In terms of, like hygiene-” Sofia goes on, “I think I washed my hands a little bit more often than I do then I used to, like, after every single thing I do I wash my hands...every time I see hand sanitizer I use it.”
