Psst! We're moving!
A new batch of intern nurses had arrived at the hospital, and after staying for a while, they all became familiar with the particularly handsome police officer who had been living in the orthopedics ward for three months.
As the weather warmed up, wounds were prone to infection, so the doctor added another bottle of anti-inflammatory medicine. At 8 AM, a nurse knocked and entered to administer Jiang Yan’s IV.
The window was open, and freshly changed bedsheets were neatly folded on a chair.
The nurse glanced at them, thinking, They were just changed yesterday.
“Captain Jiang, weren’t you in the ward last night?”
Last night, when she knocked, there wasn’t a sound from inside the room.
“I was. My wife came. She’s pregnant and unwell, so she went to bed early,” Jiang Yan said, his expression unchanged, asking if the doctor had given any instructions.
“Oh... oh,” the nurse was a little embarrassed. “Nothing much. The surgery was successful; just get more rest.”
Lin Xingzi had a new assistant, quite meticulous, who went to the Lin family home early in the morning. After Li Qing prepared breakfast, she packed it and brought it to the hospital.
Lin Xingzi came out of the restroom after washing up, sitting beside the hospital bed, yawning. Jiang Yan caressed her hair. Her collar today was a small deep V, revealing faint kiss marks on her collarbone.
“You eat first.”
Lin Xingzi brushed away the man’s hand, leaning against the chair with her chin in her palm, watching the nurse insert the needle. “I’m not working this morning, no rush.”
The assistant also unconsciously looked at the hospital bed. Stared at by several pairs of eyes, the nurse was inexplicably nervous and failed the first attempt to insert the needle. The moment she left the ward, she felt a sense of relief.
No sooner had she left than visitors arrived, though Jiang Yan himself didn’t recognize them. He rarely watched entertainment TV programs and wasn’t familiar with current popular celebrities, even rarely seeing the artists from Lin Xingzi’s own company.
“Newly signed last year. He injured a ligament during a concert and is also staying in this hospital, upstairs,” Lin Xingzi briefly introduced him to Jiang Yan, then turned her head to inquire about his injury. Finally, she asked, “Have you had breakfast?”
“Not yet.”
“Then let’s eat together; there’s extra.”
Lin Xingzi was not domineering in private. She was responsible for a new batch of trainees. The one who came to visit today was considered the oldest among the new recruits, but he was handsome, capable, and hardworking. Lin Xingzi usually paid attention to him.
Clang! The spoon clattered to the floor. The assistant quickly moved to pick it up.
Lin Xingzi’s attention returned to Jiang Yan. “What’s wrong with your hand?”
“It’s a little numb,” Jiang Yan moved his arm, his brow furrowing slightly.
Lin Xingzi, of course, knew the reason his arm was numb.
She had used it as a pillow all night.
“Then shall I feed you?”
Jiang Yan’s gaze passed indifferently over the young idol, softening naturally when it landed on Lin Xingzi’s face. “Okay.”
Assistant: Noted, noted.
The young idol felt uncomfortable continuing to disturb them and found an excuse to leave. The assistant also went to the company first, leaving only Lin Xingzi and Jiang Yan in the ward.
“You’re so cunning,” Lin Xingzi struggled to suppress her laughter, her shoulders shaking as she lay in the man’s arms. “You were fine drinking water and brushing your teeth this morning, but you can’t hold a spoon?”
“That nurse kept calling you ‘Captain Jiang,’ and her eyes were practically glued to you, but I didn’t say anything. That kid is only twenty, did you think it was like how you used to be?”
“How was I before?”
Lin Xingzi hummed, “A good-looking jerk.”
Jiang Yan was used to it and went along with it. “You know about the Qiuchi incident. Should I explain it again?”
Lin Xingzi took out half of an amulet from her bag. “Here, take it back.”
It was tied with a red string, which she had tricked Jiang Yan into giving her before.
“It’s yours once I give it to you. Why don’t you want it now?”
“The other half is with Jiang Yi. It feels a bit strange for me to keep this half. Is there still no news from him?”
Lin Xingzi had originally misunderstood Jiang Yan and Ji Qiuchi because of Jiang Yi, but he wasn’t dead; he had become Zhou Feng’s informant. Lin Xingzi and Jiang Yan were separated for eight years, and later, she was able to escape when she was kidnapped at the border also because of Jiang Yi, otherwise, she and the baby in her belly might have faced a worse fate.
“No news is the best news,” Jiang Yan didn’t want her to be sad about these things, so he changed the subject. “Are you coming over tonight?”
She deliberately made trouble, slowly asking back, “Captain Jiang has a little nurse to take care of him. Why would I come?”
Jiang Yan smiled without speaking. Only when she was provoked to anger did he reach out and wrap his arm around her waist, whispering something in her ear.
“...”
“Jiang Yan, you’re corrupted!”
Lin Xingzi only feigned defiance. After work, she still had the driver take her car to the hospital.
Ji Qiuchi had been in the drug rehabilitation center for nearly four months. Two days ago, she was sent to the hospital’s psychiatry department. Before going upstairs, Lin Xingzi first went to her attending doctor to understand her condition, which was not optimistic.
The doctor asked if they could contact her family, but Lin Xingzi thought of her father and felt that having such family was worse than having none.
Since she was already there, Lin Xingzi wanted to see Ji Qiuchi and went upstairs, but the ward door wouldn’t open; it was locked from the inside.
There was movement inside, like something being knocked over. Lin Xingzi had a bad feeling and told her assistant to break the door open.
In front of the hospital bed, a man in a white coat and mask, with a severed finger on his right hand, was injecting something into a medicine bottle with a syringe.
Doctors wouldn’t lock the door.
Lin Xingzi shouted loudly, “Who are you? What are you doing!”
The person inside clearly panicked. As she was about to enter, her waist suddenly tightened, and a familiar scent filled her nostrils. “Jiang Yan...”
Jiang Yan handed her to the assistant. “Take her and hide far away.”
Ji Qiuchi was unconscious. Jiang Yan grabbed a chair and smashed it onto the man, then went to pull the needle from her hand.
He must have been a professional hitman. He had a knife. After being kicked in the head by Jiang Yan and falling to the ground, he quickly got back up. He was eager to escape, attacking only vital points. Jiang Yan, with his injuries, gradually began to lose the upper hand.
The night duty room was staffed by female nurses. After hearing the commotion, they dared not go up to help. By the time security arrived, Jiang Yan had already held out for six minutes.
Shouts, cries, and sounds of fighting echoed in the corridor, yet Ji Qiuchi on the hospital bed remained motionless. Doctors quickly began emergency resuscitation.
Lin Xingzi called the police. Jiang Yan handed over the captured man to his colleagues and turned to run outside the emergency room to find her.
Her face was pale, and her hands were trembling. Jiang Yan carefully pulled her out of his embrace. “Are you hurt?”
“No, you came as soon as I found him.”
“How’s Qiuchi?”
“I don’t know, she’s being resuscitated,” Lin Xingzi’s hands were covered in blood. Jiang Yan’s arm had several knife cuts, and his clothes were stained red. “Let’s go get it bandaged first.”
