Psst! We're moving!
To be honest, Bo Ying did understand the deeper meaning behind those two words.
But at this moment, she didn’t want to respond too much.
Last night, while chatting with Zheng Jinyao, she mentioned that she would be going to the home furnishings market with He Jingxiu today.
Zheng Jinyao had always been optimistic about their relationship. However, as Bo Ying’s friend and strategist, she constantly reminded Bo Ying not to put herself in a disadvantaged position or let He Jingxiu think she was easy to handle.
Suddenly, Bo Ying recalled something she said.
— If He Jingxiu flirts with you and says some ambiguous words, then you should flirt back. A few years ago, he held all the cards, but now you can take control.
Thinking of this, Bo Ying cleared her throat, adjusted her attitude, and said innocently, “How would I know what President He means?”
Bo Ying smiled harmlessly, whispering softly, “I’m not a worm in President He’s stomach.”
He Jingxiu paused slightly, surprised by her response.
After a moment of silence, he spoke more directly. “What I mean is, future renovations can be done according to your preferences.”
This straightforward statement left Bo Ying unable to catch it with both hands.
Caught off guard, her lips opened and closed, feeling she was no match for He Jingxiu.
The two silently stared at each other, both holding their ground.
After a brief silence, Bo Ying blinked and said lightly, “Let’s talk about the future later. President He, don’t speak too soon.”
She was no longer the person she used to be. She couldn’t indulge in beautiful fantasies just because he mentioned “the future.” Although she still found it hard to control herself, Bo Ying thought she could at least hold out for a while.
Hearing her say this, He Jingxiu wasn’t upset.
He hummed softly and chuckled, “Alright, we’ll talk about it later.”
“…”
The car fell silent again.
Taking advantage of He Jingxiu’s distraction, Bo Ying touched her rapidly beating heart.
She suppressed her slightly upturned lips, took out her phone to distract herself, and messaged her strategist.
Bo Ying: [Yao Yao Yao Yao!!]
Bo Ying: [Come save me.]
Zheng Jinyao: [?]
Bo Ying succinctly recounted the conversation between He Jingxiu and herself and sent it over.
About a minute after sending it, she received a reply.
Zheng Jinyao: […Is that all you responded with?]
Bo Ying: [What else should I have said?]
Zheng Jinyao: [He already mentioned future houses. How can you react so mildly? You should have said something like, ‘President He, aren’t you afraid of making me misunderstand?’ You need to push him to say more.]
Bo Ying: [For example?]
Zheng Jinyao: […I suddenly doubt your previous claim that you were going to pursue He Jingxiu. With such poor flirting skills, do you really think you can win him over?]
Bo Ying choked slightly, indignantly typing: [Don’t attack me personally! What’s wrong with being like this? I’m cute, pretty, and considerate! Why can’t I win over He Jingxiu?!]
Although there were girls prettier than her, more understanding, and with better grades also pursuing He Jingxiu, he didn’t give them a chance. Bo Ying believed He Jingxiu liked her way of pursuing him.
Zheng Jinyao: [You’re just taking advantage of his favoritism.]
Bo Ying: […There’s no favoritism.]
Zheng Jinyao: [Think carefully about your memories.]
Bo Ying blinked, seriously recalling memories from a few years ago.
Alright, she admitted there might have been a little bit.
One clear memory that stood out was He Jingxiu’s choice of water.
He loved playing basketball in high school. Even as a senior student, He Jingxiu, being a top student, continued to balance study and play.
After class, he played basketball three or four times a week.
Whenever he played, Bo Ying would usually be there as an audience.
Of course, she wasn’t the only one who attended every game. One notable spectator was He Jingxiu’s classmate and vice-class monitor—a beautiful girl with excellent grades who played the piano and danced.
At that time, He Jingxiu was the school prince, and she was the school flower. Many teachers and classmates considered them a perfect match.
They were the hosting duo and face of school events and large gatherings.
Every time Bo Ying went to watch He Jingxiu play, she would be there.
Bo Ying remembered clearly one time when she always bought Evian mineral water for He Jingxiu because that was the only brand he drank.
But that day, she was in such a hurry that she didn’t even buy Nongfu Spring and arrived at the basketball court empty-handed.
Standing next to the girl, Bo Ying watched as He Jingxiu, sweaty, approached them after the game.
He glanced at Bo Ying, his voice still carrying the warmth of post-exercise breaths, hoarse and somewhat sexy. “You’re here.”
Bo Ying nodded, about to explain she forgot to buy water, when the girl beside her gently handed He Jingxiu a bottle of Evian. “Class President, drink this.”
He Jingxiu was the class president.
He looked at her, then turned to Bo Ying. “Didn’t buy water?”
It was a simple inquiry, not a question. Bo Ying had promised to supply He Jingxiu’s mineral water.
Bo Ying exclaimed, “I was in such a rush, I forgot.”
He Jingxiu nodded slightly, then turned to the girl, uncomfortably clearing his throat. “No need, thank you.”
While the girl was momentarily stunned, he glanced at Bo Ying, who was still standing there, and said, “Aren’t you leaving?”
Bo Ying was confused. “Where to?”
He Jingxiu turned and walked ahead, saying as she followed, “To buy water.”
He was dying of thirst.
They went to the school supermarket. Bo Ying looked around and saw they didn’t have He Jingxiu’s preferred brand.
She hesitated for a moment, then turned to him. “Will you drink Nongfu Spring?”
“…”
He Jingxiu looked at the red-and-white packaged mineral water and reluctantly agreed, “Yes.”
He seemed extremely thirsty, his throat parched, and he finished the entire bottle he didn’t like.
When Bo Ying asked if he wanted to buy another bottle, He Jingxiu, refreshed like a watered plant, threw the bottle into the trash and pulled Bo Ying out of the school supermarket.
Ten minutes later, they were at a supermarket outside the school where his favorite brand was available and bought another bottle of water.
…
Unconsciously, Bo Ying’s lips curved upwards, her expression becoming relaxed and joyful.
Her phone was still vibrating.
She snapped back to reality, lowered her eyes to read Zheng Jinyao’s messages.
Zheng Jinyao: [Lost in memories? Reply to me.]
Zheng Jinyao: [? Sister!]
Zheng Jinyao: [Tell me if there’s anything. You’re making me curious.]
…
Bo Ying was both amused and exasperated, typing reluctantly to tell her: [If you say so, there might be a little bit.]
Without He Jingxiu’s slight favoritism, she wouldn’t have been able to move forward so fearlessly and wholeheartedly.
Zheng Jinyao: [Tsk.]
Bo Ying: [What are you tsk-ing for?]
Zheng Jinyao: [Tsk! I think you’re deliberately feeding me dog food.]
Bo Ying suppressed a laugh: [I’m not. Isn’t this what you asked for?]
Zheng Jinyao: [Tsk, never mind. Anyway, you need to take control and not let He Jingxiu lead you by the nose. Have you chosen everything? What are you planning to do next?]
Bo Ying: [First, we’ll take the stuff to the house. He asked if I want to see his dog.]
Zheng Jinyao: [? This man is really scheming. Knowing you love animals, he’s trying to use the dog to hook you.]
Bo Ying: […]
Zheng Jinyao: [Control yourself and don’t waver for a dog.]
Bo Ying: […Okay.]
After their idle chatter ended, He Jingxiu’s chauffeur-driven car arrived.
Bo Ying had bought quite a lot of things, and even two people found it challenging to carry everything.
“Wait here.”
He Jingxiu glanced at her. “I’ll take one trip upstairs first.”
Bo Ying opened her lips slightly. “I can carry some too.”
“No need.” He Jingxiu said calmly. “Just stay here.”
“…”
For the first trip, Bo Ying didn’t insist on following him.
On the second trip, He Jingxiu assigned her to carry some small items and go upstairs with him.
The furniture and appliances were all set up. They just needed to arrange the purchased items properly, and Bo Ying could move in directly.
After putting down the items, Bo Ying glanced at the man squatting half-way to organize things for her. His neck bent slightly, head bowed, looking focused.
The afternoon sunlight filtered through the thin gauze curtains, casting light on his handsome features, pleasing to the eye.
Bo Ying stared for a long while before reluctantly turning her gaze away.
She went to the kitchen and fetched two bottles of mineral water from the fridge.
“Want some water?”
Meeting He Jingxiu’s raised eyes, Bo Ying felt a bit guilty. “Only Nongfu Spring.”
He Jingxiu: “Sure.”
For some reason, Bo Ying felt his tone this time wasn’t reluctant.
But this scene brought her back to high school, to those bittersweet yet sweet times.
“You now…” Handing him the water, Bo Ying pondered and asked, “Are you not picky about brands anymore?”
Upon hearing this, He Jingxiu countered, “Do I have a choice?”
Bo Ying didn’t hesitate, sitting on the nearby sofa and humming softly, “No.”
He Jingxiu curved his lips.
Seeing his pleasant and relaxed expression, Bo Ying sincerely felt that He Jingxiu had changed a lot.
In the past, he wouldn’t have compromised so quickly.
After finishing up in the new house, Bo Ying was sent home by He Jingxiu.
Something came up at the overseas branch, and He Jingxiu needed to rush over to handle it; thus, seeing the dog would have to wait.
Before getting out of the car, Bo Ying felt a bit heartbroken.
“How long will you be on this business trip?”
He Jingxiu looked at her, about to tease her, when he heard Bo Ying’s next sentence. “If you’re going on a business trip, does that mean I’ll have to wait another week or two to see the dog?”
Instantly, He Jingxiu swallowed the words he was about to say.
He expressionlessly glanced at Bo Ying. “You just want to see the dog sooner?”
Bo Ying gave him a look that said ‘obviously’ and confidently replied, “Yeah.”
He Jingxiu was speechless.
He sighed and said softly, “I have to go on a trip. It should take about a week.”
Bo Ying: “Oh.”
She calculated; by the time he returned, she would probably have moved.
Bo Ying tried not to reveal her emotions and simply said, “Then be safe.”
He Jingxiu looked at her. “Okay, call me if anything happens.”
“Mm.”
Watching Bo Ying enter the community, He Jingxiu drove away.
When he returned to his apartment, Qi Xuezhen was already waiting for him at the entrance.
“President He.”
He Jingxiu nodded, bending to get into the car, his voice deep. “What’s the situation?”
Qi Xuezhen took a deep breath, handing over the information he had gathered and informing him of the details he understood.
The dark Maybach sped towards the airport like the wind.
After dinner, Bo Ying received a call from Sheng Chun.
“Ying Ying, are you at home?”
Bo Ying hummed, her lips curving slightly. “Yes, are you done with work?”
Previously, Sheng Chun had gone to shoot a film. The filming location was remote, with intermittent signals, so naturally, they didn’t contact each other much.
Sheng Chun: “I’m back. I have a commercial event in the city tomorrow and just landed not long ago.”
Bo Ying raised an eyebrow. “So, are you spending your time with me or with Manager Pei?”
Sheng Chun laughed. “Of course with you. Men don’t count.”
Bo Ying giggled. “Won’t Manager Pei hold me accountable?”
Sheng Chun huffed. “Let him dare.”
After some idle chatter, Sheng Chun said, “Now to the point. I’ll come over in about half an hour.”
Bo Ying estimated she had something to discuss and quickly agreed. “Okay.”
When Sheng Chun arrived, Bo Ying was petting the kitten.
Chi Lü and Boyan were downstairs. Yuan Yuan had something to attend to and went home. In the upstairs house, she and Chi Xiaochi each occupied a space—one with a cat, the other alone—feeling very comfortable.
Bo Ying reached the community entrance and saw Pei Yan first, then Sheng Chun beside him.
Bo Ying was startled and was about to walk over when a dog standing beside the two ran towards her.
Caught off guard, Bo Ying was about to dodge when the dog consciously stopped a couple of steps away, wagging its tail and looking at her.
Bo Ying froze.
Sheng Chun and Pei Yan approached laughing. Sheng Chun shrugged, pointing to the dog in front of her. “By someone’s request, this dog needs to be taken care of by you for a while.”
Bo Ying: […]
She blinked, looking at the familiar little dog and asked, “He Jingxiu’s dog?”
Sheng Chun: “Yes.”
“…”
Besides the dog, Sheng Chun and Pei Yan also brought over its food and supplies.
Bo Ying dumbfoundedly led them into the community and upstairs, placing the items before they left.
Looking at the cat and dog in the house, Bo Ying finally realized what He Jingxiu had done.
She looked at Chi Xiaochi hiding from the dog and the big dog constantly rubbing against her legs, feeling both amused and exasperated.
After a while, Bo Ying squatted beside the dog, reaching out to rub its head and smooth its fur. “Do you know you’ve been given away as a gift?”
The dog didn’t understand anything, snuggling into her palm affectionately.
Bo Ying looked at it like this, her heart softened.
Who could resist a big dog being affectionate? She didn’t know about others, but she certainly couldn’t.
