Psst! We're moving!
Just from that one line, Le Ya’s face turned red.
Chen Yang had never said anything so sweet before. She briefly wondered if his account had been hacked, but then dismissed the thought—no one could possibly hack into his account.
Without realizing it, Le Ya’s lips curled into a smile.
After thinking for a moment, she sent Chen Yang a meme she had saved from when Xie Qingyu and Su Hui were chatting in a group chat. It seemed perfect for the occasion.
Wang Kefei, who had just returned after submitting her design draft, noticed Le Ya’s cheerful expression and asked curiously, “Le Ya, you seem to be in a good mood?”
Le Ya admitted frankly, “Yes.”
Jiang Mei, who had just left Zhang Qiu’s office, overheard their conversation and immediately assumed it was because Le Ya had learned about her being fired.
She bit her lip, wanting to mock Le Ya.
But in the end, she held back.
When Zhang Qiu had spoken to her earlier, he only mentioned that her recent designs weren’t up to par. Jiang Mei didn’t agree—she always thought her designs were beautiful.
She believed it was all because of Le Ya.
Silently, Jiang Mei began packing up her things. Before shutting down her computer, she glanced at the news notification in the bottom-right corner of her screen and nearly choked on her breath.
How could she see this news even while turning off her computer?
Every time she saw this, she was reminded of how she had warned Le Ya not to interfere in other people’s relationships, only to end up embarrassing herself.
Technically, she could have stayed until the end of the day, but Jiang Mei couldn’t bear to stay a moment longer. Every second felt like torture.
As soon as she finished packing, she left the company with her belongings.
Everyone in the office watched her leave. Though some words were exchanged, it was clear no one wanted anything to do with her.
Le Ya, catching Jiang Mei’s lingering glance, felt no guilt whatsoever.
Zhang Qiu had shown her Jiang Mei’s recent design drafts. Not only were they devoid of creativity, but her style had also begun to resemble that of a well-known designer.
There were even traces of imitation.
The Le family would never tolerate such behavior. If exposed, the company would bear the terrible reputation of plagiarism.
Firing her was the best decision.
That night, Jiang Mei went live again, though this time she avoided mentioning anything controversial and focused solely on her food-eating broadcast.
Xie Qingyu, as usual, tuned in and later commented in the group chat, “Finally, she stopped bringing up our Le Ya. Looks like she’s learned her lesson.”
It was annoying to have someone like her constantly targeting them.
Le Ya said, “She’s already left the company.”
Xie Qingyu replied, “It’s normal for her to leave. It was obvious her heart wasn’t in her work—I could tell that much.”
Le Ya neither confirmed nor denied.
After the charity gala incident, life at the company returned to normal.
Working in the design department, Le Ya heard fewer rumors and overheard less gossip when she visited the break room.
Though she didn’t understand why people liked to chat in the break room so much.
Perhaps everyone was still shaken by the aftermath of the gala, and no one dared to speak openly about her, especially since she was the boss’s daughter.
Moreover, not long after, Le Ya’s design drafts were seen by others. Anyone in the industry could tell how impressive they were.
If someone surpassed you by a small margin, you might feel jealous. But if they far exceeded you, all you could do was admire them.
During their free time, her colleagues looked up some of Le Ya’s past designs that she had shared online. Even her early works from when she had just started school outshone their own.
How could anyone feel jealous in such a situation?
Le Ya adapted effortlessly to office life. Her presence there was part of her training, and eventually, the company would be handed over to her. No one objected.
Life took a turn a week later.
Throughout the day, Le Ya received five gifts.
The first was an exquisitely packaged box of candy.
At the time, Le Ya and Wang Kefei had just exited the coffee shop downstairs when they noticed someone waiting outside the company building. Upon seeing her, the person approached and asked, “Excuse me, are you Ms. Le Ya?”
Le Ya glanced at him. “Yes, that’s me.”
The person let out a sigh of relief, handed her the box, and passed her a pen, saying, “Please sign here.”
Le Ya didn’t recognize this person. There was no label or shipping tag on the box, so she opened it and saw the logo inside.
It was a very famous candy brand.
Le Ya thought for a moment and said, “I don’t think I ordered anything from your store. Did you deliver this to the wrong person? Maybe double-check?”
Wang Kefei guessed aloud, “You didn’t order it? Then maybe someone sent it to you. Your fiancé, perhaps?”
Before Le Ya could respond, the delivery person quickly nodded. “Yes, yes, it was pre-ordered by a gentleman.”
Wang Kefei said smugly, “See, I was right.”
Le Ya figured it was from Chen Yang but didn’t understand why he hadn’t given it to her directly when picking her up after work. Why send someone instead?
After signing, she brought the box back to the office and opened it to find a set of beautifully crafted candies. This series was newly released and named “Beloved.”
Le Ya took some out to share with her colleagues.
Upon hearing Wang Kefei’s explanation, everyone immediately declined. “These are from your fiancé—we can’t eat them.”
Huang Ya added, “You should keep them for yourself. These are meant for you. We have our own snacks.”
Who would dare eat candy from a big shot?
Despite Le Ya’s attempts to share, no one accepted, so she ended up keeping them for herself. The candies came in several flavors, including all her favorites.
She couldn’t figure out why Chen Yang had suddenly bought her candy.
This mystery remained unsolved until the next gift arrived. When Le Ya went downstairs to retrieve it, she was stunned.
A little rabbit with perked-up ears lay nestled in a cardboard box, accompanied by a carrot. The rabbit was fast asleep, looking absolutely adorable.
Le Ya asked, “Was this also pre-ordered by a gentleman?”
The delivery person replied, “Yes.”
Le Ya pressed further, “Are you sure? Does he have the surname Chen?”
The person nodded. “Yes.”
Only after confirming did Le Ya sign her name. She then carried the box upstairs, during which the rabbit shifted in its sleep, resting its head on the carrot.
Her colleagues in the office swallowed hard when they saw it. “Why is it a rabbit now? Are you going to raise it?”
Le Ya placed the box on her desk and gently touched the rabbit’s ears, her voice soft and affectionate. “Of course!”
Such a cute rabbit deserved to be raised to be plump and healthy.
Wang Kefei secretly snapped a photo and searched online, only to be shocked by the price. She realized this was no ordinary rabbit.
Can’t afford it, can’t afford it.
Le Ya didn’t know the name of this rabbit, and it was incredibly lazy—basically sleeping all afternoon.
She researched rabbit habits online and bought a bunch of supplies. She even posted pictures on Weibo, quickly becoming an amateur pet blogger.
Her fans showered her with praise.
While gushing over her posts, they also educated her on the dos and don’ts of raising rabbits.
Le Ya diligently jotted everything down in a notebook, then sighed silently as she watched the utterly carefree rabbit.
Keeping the rabbit at the office wasn’t ideal, so she had someone from home come to take it back. She also asked Aunt Zhang to find someone who knew how to care for rabbits, just in case they could look after it when she wasn’t home.
After the rabbit, Le Ya received many more gifts—all unexpected and arriving one after another in quick succession.
At first, everyone in the office was excited, but eventually, they grew indifferent. When the security guard downstairs said, “Ah, another gift has arrived,” no one batted an eye.
The girls loved unboxing.
Watching Le Ya open over a dozen boxes, which piled up around the empty space, they were both envious and amused.
Initially, Le Ya didn’t plan to ask Chen Yang about the gifts, but as they kept coming, she couldn’t resist taking photos and sending them to him.
Then she asked, “Why are you suddenly buying me so many things?”
Chen Yang replied, “You’ll find out.”
Le Ya thought about it for a long time but couldn’t figure it out. She huffed softly.
She suspected Chen Yang was planning something or had suddenly gone off the deep end, wanting to proclaim to the world that he was showering her with gifts.
Though she didn’t say anything, she secretly found it sweet.
In the end, Le Ya had received over a dozen gifts, all of which she sent home with her family. When she left the company after work, she felt unusually light-hearted.
Chen Yang’s car was still waiting downstairs.
Picking her up from work every day had almost become part of his routine—rain or shine, steadfast as ever. Even the security guards outside the company recognized him.
Le Ya got into the car and brought up the topic of the gifts again. “You’ve given me too much. My office is almost full, so I’ve sent everything home.”
Chen Yang turned to look at her. “I’ll take you somewhere.”
Curious, Le Ya asked, “Where?”
This time, Chen Yang didn’t answer—he simply smiled.
At first, Le Ya thought he was taking her to dinner, but as the road grew more remote and they neared the outskirts, she started feeling drowsy.
She ended up curling up in the car and falling asleep.
When she slept, she was very peaceful. Her eyelashes fluttered slightly, and her rosy lips were closed, moist and glossy, looking temptingly fresh.
When she woke up again, Le Ya realized Chen Yang was staring at her.
Her face flushed slightly, and she stretched lazily, then looked around. “Where are we? All I see are trees.”
Le Ya had never been to a place like this.
It had been bright when they left the company, but now it was completely dark. The moon hung in the sky, and stars twinkled faintly.
Chen Yang took her hand. “I’m going to show you something beautiful.”
He pulled out an eye mask and placed it over her eyes.
Even though it was summer, the breeze here was cool. Le Ya, wearing a dress, found it quite refreshing.
With her vision blocked and her hand held by Chen Yang, all her senses focused on this moment, making her instinctively tense.
As soon as she stepped out of the car, she was scooped up into his arms.
Le Ya let out a small gasp.
She clung tightly to Chen Yang’s neck, not daring to relax even a little, afraid she might fall—though she knew he would hold her securely.
They didn’t walk far before Le Ya felt Chen Yang step onto something.
She heard him speaking to a man, but their voices were too soft for her to make out what they were saying.
Le Ya was gently set down.
After waiting for a few minutes, she suddenly felt a sharp sense of weightlessness as wind rushed at her from all directions.
Le Ya vaguely sensed what was happening.
Sure enough, the next moment, her eye mask was removed, and before her eyes was a breathtaking view: she was standing on a hot air balloon, surrounded by small night lights.
Le Ya asked, “Are we watching the sunrise from the hot air balloon?”
Come to think of it, she had never ridden a hot air balloon, even abroad. She often saw photos on Weibo, especially those taken in Turkey—they were stunning.
But wait, it was nighttime now. Where would the sunrise come from?
So it was the night scenery they were here to see.
Hearing her words, Chen Yang chuckled softly in her ear, his dark eyes fixed on her. “You’ll see soon.”
Under the night sky, Le Ya’s watery eyes sparkled with clarity.
She hadn’t felt nervous on airplanes before, but now she was a little uneasy. She grabbed the edge of Chen Yang’s clothes and stepped back, bumping into his chest.
Chen Yang cupped her chin and kissed her.
The kiss left Le Ya dizzy, and all her previous thoughts vanished instantly. She didn’t even know what she was thinking anymore.
The hot air balloon gradually ascended, moving from the mountains to above the city. Below them stretched a dazzling night view—a sea of lights, half reflected in the ocean, half illuminating the city. On the other side of the city lay the sea, where waves crashed against the rocks.
Chen Yang covered her eyes with his hand and whispered in her ear, “Le Ya, once you see this, you must never forget it. Don’t even think about forgetting.”
His voice was hoarse.
Le Ya’s eyelashes trembled, brushing against his palm, tickling slightly.
She had always known Chen Yang’s possessiveness was intense, but aside from that night after the college entrance exam, this was the first time she’d heard such a tone from him.
It was as if he wanted her to die in his arms.
Le Ya softly hummed in response.
Only then did Chen Yang release his hand and murmur, “Look.”
Le Ya gripped Chen Yang’s wrist tightly, took a deep breath, and finally dared to look down. At that moment, the entire city’s night lights seemed to shift and change.
Half of the lights shimmered in the ocean, while the other half illuminated the city.
The flickering lights spread from the city to the ocean, a warm yellow glow resembling stars in the night sky. They formed her name, crashing unexpectedly into her line of sight.
Le Ya’s lips parted slightly, and she was stunned.
Suddenly, fireworks erupted from below, bursting one after another in the night sky before her eyes, almost too many to take in.
Chen Yang wrapped his arms around her and whispered softly above her head, “This is your gift, but there’s one last thing missing.”
That’s when Le Ya suddenly remembered.
The small game she had received on her eighteenth birthday—the one she named “Eighteenth.” In the game, she had opened eighteen gifts.
All of them had been successfully delivered to her this afternoon.
From the initial box of candy, the rabbit, balloons… to the current spectacle of fireworks filling the sky—it was all the same, just in a different order.
Seventeen gifts. Only one remained.
When she opened the final box in the game, two little figures holding hands and forming a heart popped out. Now, what would it be?
Le Ya’s heart raced wildly. As the sound of fireworks gradually faded in the pitch-black night sky, her heart felt like it was about to leap out of her chest.
Until she heard Chen Yang’s voice:
“Marry me, Le Ya.”
