Psst! We're moving!
Wen Di was in so much pain she couldn’t sleep, tossing and turning.
Yan Heyu fed her a painkiller, then went to the bedroom and brought a thin blanket to cover her.
“If you can’t stand it, go to the hospital.”
“No need. The painkiller should work.”
Wen Di rested her head on his lap. Gradually, the pain in her lower abdomen subsided, and she fell asleep.
Yan Heyu’s legs went numb, recovered, and then went numb again, repeatedly tormented. He sat there motionless, not disturbing her sleep at all.
Wen Di slept until 5:30. Yan Heyu had maintained that posture for three hours.
Only the two of them were home. The housekeeper, in order to cover up, had given all the household staff the day off. After reporting to Yan Heyu via message, he also didn’t come back.
Wen Di stretched after waking up. She hadn’t eaten lunch and was now hungry.
“Hubby.”
She gently scratched his sexy Adam’s apple.
Yan Heyu was resting with his eyes closed, propped on his hand. Hearing her call him, he opened his eyes, his voice hoarse with sleepiness, “Not sleeping anymore?”
Wen Di said, “Too hungry to sleep.”
Neither of them had ever cooked a meal; they were both used to being served.
Yet, she requested, “Didn’t you learn to make soup once? Make it for me; I don’t want takeout.”
Yan Heyu indulged her in everything today, asking, “What kind of soup do you want?”
Wen Di didn’t have high demands, “Anything, just pick something simple to make.”
There were ready-made ingredients in the fridge. If he really didn’t know how to make it, he could look it up online.
Yan Heyu helped her up. He massaged his calves, and another wave of soreness and numbness gnawed at him.
Wen Di held his knee and asked, “Are your legs numb?”
“A little.” As the soreness and numbness eased, Yan Heyu got up and went to the kitchen.
Wen Di wrapped herself in the blanket and leaned on the sofa, looking at her phone.
An hour ago, her best friend had sent her a message. She was sleeping soundly at the time and hadn’t heard the vibration.
She found her earphones, plugged them in, and called Shen Tang back.
Shen Tang had finished work early today and was already back at the hotel.
When the call connected, Shen Tang first said, “Are you writing a new script again?”
Wen Di only replied late when she was writing a script.
“No, I was sleeping when you messaged me.” Wen Di seemed still half-asleep, yawning again. Lazily she said, “Period pain. I took some medicine and slept for a while. You didn’t have many scenes this afternoon?”
“Not many, just two, and I got them in one take.”
“I’ll visit the set in Hengdian in a couple of days.” Wen Di then remembered, “When is Jiang Chengyu visiting? I need to avoid his time.”
Shen Tang paused before replying, “We’re in a cold war.”
So, there was no possibility of Jiang Chengyu visiting.
Wen Di straightened up upon hearing about their cold war. Jiang Chengyu had always left a good impression on her: devoted, thoughtful, and meticulous.
“You two can even fight?”
Shen Tang said, “It’s not really a fight, just a stalemate. He hasn’t come to find me, and I haven’t contacted him.”
Wen Di reminded her, “Arguments are normal, but don’t let it drag on too long.”
“Let’s not talk about him.” Shen Tang changed the subject, “I was just trying on dresses, and I didn’t have a suitable bag. I unstitched a few clutches my aunt gave me, and they’re just right.”
Wen Di was hungry, so she opened a bag of snacks and ate while chatting, “My mom was still talking about you during the New Year, asking when you’d finish this drama so I could bring you home to visit.”
Shen Tang said, “I’ll go as soon as filming wraps up.”
The two chatted about this and that for almost an hour.
Wen Di and Shen Tang agreed on a time for her visit before ending their long call.
She was worried about Shen Tang and Jiang Chengyu’s cold war. Shen Tang was as stubborn as she was; getting her to proactively contact Jiang Chengyu was impossible. She wondered what was going on with Jiang Chengyu.
Putting down her snack, Wen Di went to the kitchen to find Yan Heyu, wanting to sound him out and also see him in an apron, stepping down from his pedestal.
“Hubby, is the soup ready?”
As she passed the other sofa, she accidentally brushed off a document bag from the armrest.
The document bag was the one Yan Heyu had brought back earlier. He never misplaced documents, but perhaps he had too much to drink today and forgot to put it in the study.
She bent down to pick it up.
Wen Di didn’t know that it wasn’t business documents inside, but the breakup compensation Yan Heyu intended to give her. He had gifted her many potentially lucrative investments under his personal name.
Yan Heyu heard Wen Di asking if the soup was ready and came out of the kitchen, just as he saw Wen Di holding the document bag. His heart suddenly tightened, a level of tension he had never experienced before, and he blurted out, “The documents in there are all commercial secrets.”
Wen Di put the document bag back in its place, “Don’t worry, I’m not interested in your secrets, and I might not even understand them if you showed them to me. I just brushed it off earlier, so I picked it up for you.”
Yan Heyu inexplicably sighed in relief and casually said to her, “The soup isn’t ready yet.”
Wen Di walked over and asked him, “What has Jiang Chengyu been busy with lately?”
Yan Heyu looked at her, “What’s wrong?”
Wen Di didn’t beat around the bush, “He and Shen Tang seem to be in a cold war, and it’s lasting a bit long this time. You know Tangtang hasn’t had it easy, growing up with no one to love her except Grandpa Shen. She’s most afraid of having conflicts with people she cares about.”
“Jiang Chengyu was still busy preparing a Valentine’s Day gift for Shen Tang a while ago, so there shouldn’t be a big conflict.” Yan Heyu wasn’t sure about Jiang Chengyu’s recent situation. “I’ll ask for you.”
Speaking of Valentine’s Day, Wen Di asked Yan Heyu, “What do you want? I’ll get it for you.”
“No need for gifts,” Yan Heyu demanded, “Just carefully look through all the things I’ve given you in the walk-in closet, so next time I use something, you won’t ask me where it came from.”
Wen Di smiled, “Am I that petty?”
Then she stood on tiptoes and kissed him.
Over the past three years, she had given him at least seven or eight hundred gifts. Looking through all of them would be exhausting.
Considering he was making her soup, she’d agree for now.
Yan Heyu looked down at her in his arms, “What about you, what do you want?”
Wen Di looked around the villa living room and said, “You don’t need to put effort into preparing this year’s gift.”
“Mm, what do you want?” With that, Yan Heyu leaned down and kissed her lips.
Wen Di also wanted to kiss him, but when he stood straight, she couldn’t reach him. She had to wrap her arms around his neck and said, “My property deed has your name added to it. As a reciprocal gesture, I’ll transfer money to you, and you add my name to the villa’s property deed, giving me a few rooms. Next time we have a cold war, I’ll stay in my own room.”
Yan Heyu didn’t say anything, just looked into her eyes.
Wen Di wasn’t in a hurry; there was still a week until Valentine’s Day anyway.
The soup pot was bubbling. Yan Heyu took Wen Di’s hand from his neck, went over, and turned down the heat, letting it simmer.
Just as he adjusted the heat, a friend called.
The friend first congratulated him on his engagement and invited him to the clubhouse.
Yan Heyu hadn’t invited any friends to his engagement, so they probably wanted to show their congratulations by inviting him out.
“Not going,” he said. “Wen Di hasn’t eaten dinner yet; I’m making it for her at home.”
Friend: “...”
He turned and whispered to the others in the private room, “Brother Yan can’t make it. Looks like he got dead drunk at the engagement banquet at noon and is hallucinating, talking nonsense about making dinner for Wen Di.”
He laughed heartily, and the others joined in.
Yan Heyu didn’t explain and hung up the call.
He initially didn’t plan to go to the clubhouse. After eating with Wen Di, he thought it over and decided to go anyway; some things needed to be resolved.
He called his driver to prepare the car.
Wen Di was leaning on the sofa, reading a novel, and saw him putting on his coat. “Hubby, are you going out again?”
“Mm.” Yan Heyu told her to go to bed early, saying he didn’t know when he’d be back.
Wen Di had slept for three hours in the afternoon and wasn’t sleepy anytime soon. “I can’t sleep.”
Yan Heyu: “Then wait for me to come back.” He picked up the document bag and left.
As the car drove out of the villa, Yan Heyu called Kang Bo and asked him to meet him at the clubhouse.
Just as he ended the call with Kang Bo, Tian Qinglu’s call came in.
When the call connected, Tian Qinglu immediately asked, “Where are you?” Unconsciously, her voice softened when she spoke to him.
Yan Heyu didn’t answer but asked, “What’s the matter?”
Tian Qinglu was having dinner with friends tonight to celebrate her engagement and wanted to go singing later, but hadn’t made a reservation at the clubhouse beforehand. When they arrived, all the private rooms were full. Yan Heyu had a private room, and she wanted to borrow it.
After explaining the reason, Tian Qinglu asked, “Is it convenient?”
Yan Heyu was going to his friends’ gathering tonight, so his private room was empty. “It’s no inconvenience.”
He paused for two seconds, then stated bluntly, “From now on, besides business, don’t call me. If you have something, contact Assistant Kang. I don’t want to take anyone’s calls behind Wen Di’s back.”
Tian Qinglu’s side was quiet for a long time. Her self-esteem was utterly crushed. Luckily, Ding Yi hadn’t heard Yan Heyu’s words, or she would have taunted her endlessly.
This man was just so arrogant.
So arrogant that he made the rules for everything.
When she learned that Yan Heyu was going to break up with Wen Di completely, she even had an absurd idea: should she give Wen Di some appropriate compensation?
After all, she had interfered and ruined Wen Di’s relationship.
Fortunately, she only kept this absurd idea to herself and didn’t mention it to anyone.
Looking at it now, she was more pitiful than Wen Di. Wen Di didn’t need her sympathy.
Tian Qinglu finally found her voice, “She doesn’t want to break up?”
Yan Heyu: “I don’t want to break up.”
Tian Qinglu’s heart felt as if something had painfully stabbed it. “Wen Di doesn’t mind that we’re already engaged?”
Although Wen Di’s family’s power couldn’t compare to their circle, by a large margin, they were still the richest family in Jiangcheng. Wen Di had been pampered by her family since childhood. How could she not mind being with Yan Heyu without a proper status?
After a few seconds of silence, Yan Heyu said, “I’m afraid she’ll find out.”
Tian Qinglu: “?”
She thought she had misheard; he actually said he was afraid.
It was rare to see him afraid of anything.
He said this to make her understand that Wen Di didn’t know about his engagement, and if even he was afraid of it, others shouldn’t provoke Wen Di.
Ding Yi was not far away. She didn’t know what Yan Heyu had said, but it wasn’t hard to tell from Tian Qinglu’s expression that it wasn’t anything good.
Tian Qinglu hung up and went to find Ding Yi and the others.
Ding Yi asked, “Should we go somewhere else to play?” She thought Yan Heyu was unwilling to lend Tian Qinglu the private room.
“No need.” Tian Qinglu composed herself. Not only Ding Yi but also a bunch of fake friends were there. She forced a smile, “Yan Heyu let me have the private room.”
The word she used was ‘let,’ implying a certain degree of indulgence.
Her fake friends teased her about it.
Led by the clubhouse staff, they went up to the exclusive private room.
Ding Yi walked arm-in-arm with Tian Qinglu, lagging behind. In a voice only they could hear, she said, “You don’t have to pretend in front of me. Aren’t you tired?”
Tian Qinglu didn’t respond.
Ding Yi continued to twist the knife, “You must be terribly upset inside.”
Tian Qinglu denied it vehemently, “What am I upset about? Isn’t profit more real than feelings? I’m not losing anything by getting engaged.”
Ding Yi showed her no mercy, “Alright, stop being stubborn.”
Tian Qinglu didn’t want to be stubborn either, but having reached the point of engagement, what else could she do? She didn’t want people to laugh at her, nor had she thought of letting go.
If she couldn’t force his affections, at least she had the benefits.
Worst case, they’d each do their own thing.
Ding Yi then said, “When you’re feeling down, do you know what to do?”
Tian Qinglu followed her lead and asked, “What do I do?”
Ding Yi gave her a brilliant suggestion, “Endure it.”
Tian Qinglu: “...”

As Yan Heyu’s car drove into the clubhouse courtyard, Kang Bo was already waiting for him. He got out of the car, carrying the document bag.
Kang Bo saw the familiar document bag and was surprised that Wen Di had signed the agreement so quickly. It was regrettable that a three-year relationship ended this way, even for him, an outsider.
But without signing, there seemed to be no other way out.
Yan Heyu handed the items to Kang Bo, instructing him, “Dispose of all the documents inside.” He paused, “Delete the electronic copies as well.”
Kang Bo was stunned, “Miss Wen doesn’t want anything?”
Yan Heyu said, “I didn’t show it to her.”
So, Wen Di didn’t know about the boss’s breakup compensation. Kang Bo didn’t dare to guess what the boss would do next, waiting for instructions.
After a long wait, silence still lingered.
Yan Heyu finally spoke, “Don’t let Wen Di know for now.”
Kang Bo replied, “...Okay.”
