Psst! We're moving!
Yan Ming tried to distract himself with other thoughts, hoping to calm his racing mind.
But just as he was beginning to succeed, a hand suddenly reached out from behind him and pinched his right ear.
“Your horn is broken, and I guess your turn signal lights are busted too?” Yu Tian’s voice mumbled in tandem with her actions. Her fingers were soft as she lightly pinched Yan Ming’s ear, sounding genuinely puzzled. “Yan Ming, what kind of car did you buy? Why is everything broken?”
Yu Tian earnestly pointed out the flaws in Yan Ming’s “safe driving”: “I was wondering why you didn’t use your turn signal when you made that right turn earlier. Then I tried to help you and realized your turn signal light is broken too!”
Soon, Yan Ming’s left ear wasn’t spared either.
After finishing her assessment, Yu Tian continued her antics, reaching up with her other hand to pinch his left ear: “Let me check if the left turn signal works.”
She fiddled around aimlessly, clearly disappointed: “Why are they all broken?!”
The fleeting calm Yan Ming had managed to regain was shattered once again by her reckless behavior.
At first, only his face had felt warm, but now both ears—alternately rubbed and pinched by Yu Tian—were heating up to an alarming degree.
Yan Ming finally couldn’t take it anymore: “Yu Tian! What are you doing?!”
Unfortunately, such intimidation had no effect on the drunken little white-eyed wolf. Yu Tian’s tone was matter-of-fact: “I’m checking your junky car for you.”
After messing with Yan Ming’s ears, she grew bolder, starting to grope his face.
Not satisfied with just touching his face, the instigator continued to push the limits of Yan Ming’s patience.
Her hand then moved to Yan Ming’s forehead, and she let out a short, startled cry—
“Stop the car, stop the car!”
She shook Yan Ming’s shoulders, her voice filled with urgency: “This is bad, Yan Ming!”
Yan Ming’s voice was laced with resignation and exhaustion: “What now, my little troublemaker?”
“Don’t you realize?! Your car’s temperature is way too high!” Yu Tian pressed her hands against Yan Ming’s cheeks and forehead. “Look, it feels like it’s about to catch fire!”
Yan Ming remained expressionless: “It’s normal for the car’s interior temperature to rise after being exposed to the sun.”
Though Yu Tian seemed oblivious at times, she could be surprisingly logical in others: “But it’s nighttime, and there’s no sun. How can the car’s interior temperature be this high?!”
“No! I’m getting out! If you keep driving this car, I think it’s going to spontaneously combust! I’m getting out!”
Ignoring Yan Ming’s attempts to stop her, Yu Tian quickly wriggled free from his back and bolted into a small shop by the roadside.
She escaped so swiftly, without a second thought for the person still “in the car.”
What else could she be but a little white-eyed wolf?
Though utterly exasperated, Yan Ming had no choice but to follow her quickly. He found Yu Tian rummaging through an icebox placed at the shop’s entrance, her hands pressed against the cold mineral water bottles inside.
“What are you...”
Before Yan Ming could finish asking, Yu Tian proudly pressed her icy hands onto his face. The sudden cold made him flinch. Wide-eyed, he watched as she warmed her hands on his face, then nimbly jumped back to cool them again in the icebox before bouncing over once more.
This time, however, she didn’t attempt to “attack” his face. Instead, she tried to slip her hands down the back of his neck, under his shirt—
“Yan Ming, I’ve come to save you!”
“...” Yan Ming was completely lost in Yu Tian’s logic. “Save me from what?” He pursed his lips. “Are you sure you’re saving me and not trying to get rid of me?”
Yu Tian, however, spoke with conviction: “I’m definitely saving you! You refused to get out of the car, so I couldn’t abandon you. I’m physically cooling down your junky car. Just wait—I feel the temperature has dropped a bit, but it’s still warm. I’ll keep at it until the car cools down.”
Yan Ming’s body hadn’t cooled, but his voice certainly had: “If I cool down completely, I’ll be dead. Only then will I truly be cold.”
Drunk as she was, Yu Tian couldn’t process Yan Ming’s words logically. Her eyes widened in disbelief: “You’re acting like you’re ready to die with your car! Are you saying you’d sacrifice yourself for it? Don’t worry, when I have money in the future, I’ll buy you ten or eight cars so you can take your ten or eight girlfriends on road trips!”
“Why would I need ten or eight girlfriends?”
Yan Ming’s voice rose slightly, though he didn’t realize his thoughts had been entirely derailed by Yu Tian.
Yu Tian bit her finger, tilting her head as she giggled while staring at Yan Ming’s face: “Your face should suffice.”
“Because beauty is conserved. If your looks are a 10, you can trade them for ten 1-point girlfriends. So you can have ten girlfriends…”
“Why would I want ten 1-point girlfriends?” Yan Ming almost laughed in frustration. “Can’t I just have one 10-point girlfriend?”
“Because I’ve arranged for you to have ten! Ten is my lucky number!”
“...”
No wonder they say never to argue with fools—they’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Helplessly, Yan Ming said: “The car’s temperature has dropped now. Let me ask you one last time—are you getting back in or not? If not, I’m leaving.”
This time, Yu Tian calmed down. She reached out to touch Yan Ming’s face again, looking very professional. “The temperature is normal now. I’m getting back in!”
But even after Yan Ming hoisted her back onto his back, Yu Tian occasionally reached out to touch his face or forehead, as if responsible for continuously monitoring the “vehicle’s” temperature.
Yan Ming had no choice but to use one hand to stop her antics. In the end, he successfully subdued her restless hands.
Only when Yu Tian quieted down did Yan Ming realize he was holding her injured right hand. Beneath his fingertips, he could feel the unevenness of the scar on her hand. Yu Tian was extremely sensitive about the scar on her hand, and even in her drunken state, when it was touched, she quickly pulled her hand away from Yan Ming’s grasp and hid it behind her back.
Yan Ming could have said nothing.
But it seemed he had grown accustomed to Yu Tian’s noisy, hyperactive behavior and couldn’t adjust to the sudden silence.
“Yu Tian, no one cares about your hand.”
Yan Ming didn’t know how the words came out of his mouth. They sounded like something straight out of a cheesy self-help book—utterly foolish—but he couldn’t stop himself from saying them—
“You shouldn’t feel inferior because of your hand. Because this scar of yours is different from others’. For them, it’s just an injury, but for you, it’s a badge of honor.”
“Because of this scar, you saved a young patient and changed a child’s life. Don’t you think there’s no need to hide it?”
Yan Ming didn’t expect Yu Tian to listen, but soon, he felt the warmth of tears against his neck.
Yu Tian, surprisingly, had started crying on his shoulder. Her tears rolled down along Yan Ming’s collarbone.
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before Yan Ming finally reached the parking lot. After settling Yu Tian into the passenger seat, she had already stopped crying, though her eyes were still a bit red, like a frightened rabbit. She stared blankly as Yan Ming buckled her seatbelt for her, looking dazed, as if she could be sold off at any moment and he’d go home to count the money.
“All right, I’ll take you home.”
Once everything was ready, Yu Tian sat quietly and obediently in the passenger seat. Yan Ming finally let out a sigh of relief.
The distance from Bar Street to Yu Tian’s neighborhood wasn’t far. However, tonight, for some unknown reason, several main roads were heavily congested, forcing Yan Ming to drive slowly forward.
It wasn’t until they approached the intersection that he realized the cause of the traffic jam—just a few days ago, a serious drunk-driving accident had occurred on this street. In response, authorities had begun frequent roadside checks for drunk driving, alongside campaigns to raise awareness about its dangers, aiming to deter reckless drivers.
Sure enough, quite a few people leaving Bar Street after drinking had been caught, resulting in several cars being pulled over, causing this mini-traffic jam.
Fortunately, the drunk-driving checks were efficient. Moments later, a police officer tapped on Yan Ming’s car window.
Yan Ming stepped out of the car and blew into the breathalyzer as required. Just as he was about to return to the car, he heard muffled thuds coming from inside the vehicle.
The young female officer conducting the check immediately looked toward the sound and spotted Yu Tian inside the car. Beautiful and alluring, her eyes glistened with unshed tears from drunkenness and frequent yawning, evoking a poetic image: Her pupils cut through autumn waters; her charm flows from her eyes.
Yu Tian always seemed to have just the right amount of coquettish allure in her gaze.
However, it was clear she was drunk, as she clumsily slapped at the car window, seemingly trying to get out.
This behavior immediately drew the young policewoman’s attention. She eyed Yan Ming suspiciously: “Why does the girl in the car look like she doesn’t want to stay there?”
Near Bar Street, although Rong City generally had good public safety, there were still occasional lawbreakers taking advantage of loopholes. Just a few days earlier, Bar Street had made headlines due to a “body snatching” incident.
Though the car owner was strikingly handsome and charismatic, having a good face didn’t necessarily mean having good character.
The policewoman glanced inside the car. The girl in the passenger seat was stunningly beautiful with a voluptuous figure, clearly intoxicated. After aimlessly slapping at the window for a while, she finally remembered the electric button and managed to lower the window. She then leaned her head out, looking dazedly at the two people outside.
Yan Ming knew he was being misunderstood and suspected, but he appreciated the policewoman’s diligence and cooperated fully.
To simplify explanations and avoid unnecessary complications, he succinctly stated: “The person in the passenger seat is my younger sister.”
Unfortunately, the policewoman wasn’t convinced: “Show me your ID.”
Yan Ming complied. To further increase credibility, he even showed his hospital ID badge: “I’m a doctor at the First Affiliated Hospital. You can find my information on the hospital’s official website under the appointment section.”
Doctors indeed carried significant social credibility. After checking the list of doctors at the First Affiliated Hospital, the policewoman appeared to believe Yan Ming. Still, to ensure thoroughness, she asked professionally: “If she’s your sister, do you have any photos together?”
Yan Ming and Yu Tian indeed had no real photos together, but…
Calmly, Yan Ming produced the fruits of Yu Tian’s Photoshop crash course: “Here’s our photo together.”
The policewoman glanced at it. The two figures in the photo appeared quite intimate, but…
“You… are you holding a bar of soap in this hand?” She looked up, her tone incredulous. “Why are you holding a bar of soap?”
Yan Ming paused for a moment before continuing: “Because I’m very clean-conscious. It’s convenient to wash my hands anytime, anywhere. You know, doctors often have a bit of a cleanliness obsession.”
Everything seemed reasonable. This time, the policewoman seemed convinced and was about to let them go when suddenly, Yu Tian, still sprawled in the passenger seat, spoke up—
“I’m not his sister.”
She pointed at Yan Ming, sowing chaos: “He’s surnamed Yan, and I’m surnamed Yu. We’re not related at all, and we’ve only known each other for a short time. We definitely don’t share any blood relation…”
“...”
“Officer Sister, not all doctors are good people. I had a senior who was a doctor, and he was garbage…”
“...”
“We’ve never taken any photos together! What photo is he showing you? It must be photoshopped! Fake!”
“...”
Yan Ming was now stuck—he couldn’t leave, but staying wasn’t an option either.
The suspicion in the eyes of the policewoman and her colleague returned: “We have body cameras recording everything here, including your license plate number. Since the girl says you’re not siblings, then…”
“She’s my girlfriend,” Yan Ming said, glancing at Yu Tian before turning back to the policewoman. He pursed his lips, rubbed his temples, and calmly continued: “We had a fight. She’s drunk, and I’m taking her home.”
The policewoman frowned, still skeptical: “Then why did you initially say she was your sister?”
“Because I’m a jerk,” Yan Ming replied expressionlessly. “You know, you can only have one girlfriend, but you can have countless sisters.”
He pointed at Yu Tian: “That’s why she’s drowning her sorrows in alcohol.”
“So you’re admitting she’s your girlfriend now?” The policewoman’s face showed genuine disdain. “Fine, go ahead. Treat your girlfriend better in the future! Stop pretending she’s your sister!”
“Looks like a decent guy, but turns out to be trash…”
“Never judge a book by its cover…”
“What kind of person wouldn’t make such a beautiful girl his official girlfriend?!”
Yan Ming endured the various condemning gazes and drove away as calmly as possible.
Thankfully, the rest of the journey went smoothly. Yu Tian lived in an older residential building, with only six floors and no elevator. She had regained some mobility and insisted on walking up the stairs herself. However, leaning on the railing and moving sluggishly, Yan Ming couldn’t bear to watch and eventually carried her upstairs.
Upon opening the door, they discovered that Yu Tian’s mother wasn’t home.
Seeing that Yu Tian was still drunk, Yan Ming resigned himself to leading her inside and pouring her a glass of water.
Once back in her familiar environment, Yu Tian kicked off her high heels and collapsed onto her bed. With great effort, she sat up just enough to sip the water Yan Ming handed her, then quickly flopped back onto her pillow.
Yan Ming gently patted her back: “Yu Tian, change your sleeping position.”
Only after Yu Tian reluctantly turned to lie on her side did Yan Ming rise.
Although she hadn’t drunk much, her tolerance was clearly low. Yan Ming worried that if she felt uncomfortable and vomited, lying on her side would at least prevent choking. Though the likelihood was slim, he still wasn’t entirely reassured.
He glanced at Yu Tian on the bed. As he was about to close the door and leave, a muffled voice came from the bed—
“Thank you for tonight. I’ll repay you someday…”
So she wasn’t completely unconscious.
Yan Ming chuckled softly: “What could you possibly repay me with?”
He glanced at Yu Tian nestled in her blankets and muttered softly: “Little white-eyed wolf.”
Yan Ming didn’t expect any response from her, but Yu Tian seemed angered by the phrase “little white-eyed wolf.” Suddenly, she bolted upright from under the covers, glaring fiercely at Yan Ming—
“Who are you calling a little white-eyed wolf?! I’m famous for repaying kindness. Come here, I’ll repay you right now!”
Yan Ming sighed in exasperation: “Enough, settle down and sleep.”
But Yu Tian wasn’t about to calm down so easily. She scrambled off the bed, walked up to Yan Ming, stood on her tiptoes, and before he could react, kissed his cheek. Ignoring his shocked expression, she calmly returned to her bed.
Yan Ming stared at her on the bed: “Yu Tian, are you out of your mind? Do you even know who I am?”
The little white-eyed wolf yawned: “Aren’t you my boyfriend? I just heard it! You are my boyfriend!”
“...”
She soon became confused again: “But when did I get a boyfriend?”
With a dazed expression, Yu Tian curled up in her blanket, seemingly unwilling to think anymore. She appeared ready to sleep peacefully without dwelling on the topic.
She probably had no idea whom she had kissed or whom she was talking to.
And the culprit, relying on her drunken state, completely escaped accountability.
Yan Ming pressed his lips together and gently closed the door.
Just as he did, a muffled voice came from under the covers—
“Yan Ming, goodbye.”
The instigator soon turned over, mumbling: “I really want egg tarts, stir-fried chestnuts, and mung bean cakes…”
Gradually, her muttering grew softer, until she finally drifted off to sleep.
Yu Tian fell into a deep, peaceful slumber, relaxed and natural. But Yan Ming, on the other hand, became tense all over.
At first, he hadn’t thought much of it. But hearing Yu Tian call his name, he felt something shift within him. Emotions sprouted uncontrollably, like branches budding in spring, and his heartbeat quickened once again.
This was what he got for spending 100,000 yuan in one night.
The instigator slept soundly, while he was left with a racing heart and turbulent emotions.
Yan Ming thought his earlier scolding of Yu Tian was entirely justified.
She truly was a little white-eyed wolf.
