Psst! We're moving!
Hearing his words, Bo Ying immediately retorted without thinking. “What’s wrong with my sleeping posture?”
Isn’t kicking off the blanket something most people do?
He Jingxiu stood on the balcony of the room, his pupils as dark as the night, an unfathomable ink.
Unconsciously, his memories were pulled back to that night… in bed.
After tidying up their things, He Jingxiu urged her to sleep.
His apartment had only occasionally been visited by male friends once or twice; no female friends had ever stayed over. Bo Ying was the first, and also the first person he had brought back late at night.
By the time they finished dealing with those rain-soaked books, she could barely keep her eyes open.
He Jingxiu let her have the bedroom, telling her to lock the door while he took a blanket and slept on the sofa.
He kept an eye on Bo Ying’s movements in the room. At first, there wasn’t a sound, and Bo Ying seemed to be sleeping deeply.
Later, He Jingxiu was awakened by her murmurs.
He realized then that Bo Ying hadn’t locked the door; she had just gently closed it, leaving an opportunity for others.
He Jingxiu doubted her safety awareness, but under those circumstances, he had no choice but to push the door open.
The bedside lamp was on, and at a glance, he noticed her flushed cheeks and burning hot body.
He Jingxiu called out to her, intending to take her to the hospital, but Bo Ying refused. She clung to his hand, muttering about her books, crying as she spoke.
He Jingxiu had no choice but to call the family doctor.
The heavy rain that night had blocked many roads, and the family doctor couldn’t make it late at night.
Later, He Jingxiu followed the doctor’s instructions, feeding her fever-reducing medicine and then physically cooling her down.
By three o’clock, Bo Ying finally calmed down a bit and fell asleep again.
But her hand still clutched He Jingxiu’s clothes, preventing him from moving.
He Jingxiu was too tired; his eyelids drooped. After struggling a few times to break free, he eventually gave in.
He leaned against the bedside table, lending her one of his hands.
Drowsily, he was startled awake.
Opening his eyes, he discovered that even with a fever, she had wrapped herself around him like an octopus. When he tried to pull her hand away, her legs entwined around him, and her head kept burrowing towards him.
...
Thinking about this, He Jingxiu’s pupils darkened further.
His Adam’s apple involuntarily moved up and down, and his gaze deepened. “Bo Ying.”
“Ah.” Bo Ying was immersed in her defense. “What is it?”
He Jingxiu paused briefly, softly saying, “Don’t bring up such matters to discuss with others in the future.”
Bo Ying blinked, confused. “What kind of matter?”
He Jingxiu remained silent.
After three seconds of silence, Bo Ying seemed to realize. She was speechless for a moment, her lips moving before she managed to utter, “You’re overthinking.”
Apart from female friends, among male friends, only He Jingxiu had seen her sleeping. Besides him, who else could she discuss it with?
He Jingxiu responded heavily, “Then go to sleep now?”
“Mm.” Bo Ying glanced at the time; it was indeed late. “Goodnight.”
This was her third time saying it.
He Jingxiu smiled slightly. “Goodnight. See you tomorrow.”
Bo Ying was momentarily stunned, her lips curving upwards. “See you tomorrow.”
Perhaps because of this phone call, Bo Ying slept well during the latter part of the night.
When the alarm rang, she woke up from her dream.
Upon arriving at the company, Pei Yunmeng saw her spirited demeanor, holding her coffee cup curiously. “Why are you so energetic today?”
Bo Ying raised an eyebrow, somewhat unwillingly asking, “Am I not usually energetic?”
“Hmm.”
Pei Yunmeng didn’t spare her feelings. “For the past few days, you’ve been lifeless at work, barely speaking beyond what’s necessary.”
“...” Bo Ying was momentarily stunned, hesitating. “Really?”
Fang Boyu happened to pass by and nodded upon hearing this. “You were.”
Being told this by both of them, Bo Ying suddenly began to doubt herself. Was she really like that?
Before she could figure it out, Du Nan suddenly approached from the other side, tapping Bo Ying’s computer with a document, looking at her coldly. “Come to the meeting room.”
Bo Ying was taken aback, watching Du Nan’s retreating figure. Under the sympathetic gazes of Pei Yunmeng and Fang Boyu, she followed.
The legal department had a small meeting room used for discussing matters unsuitable for the office.
The meeting room wasn’t large, but its location was excellent. Several lush green plants adorned the conference table, full of vitality. Sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting a small halo over the greenery.
Bo Ying stood on one side, with some sunlight falling precisely on her cheek, slightly blinding.
As soon as she entered, Du Nan slammed the documents in front of her.
“Bo Ying.” She sat cross-legged on the office chair, raising her nose to look at her. “How did you handle this contract?”
Bo Ying lowered her eyes, recognizing the content of the contract mentioned.
She was silent for two seconds, looking at Du Nan. “Nan Jie, is there an issue with this contract now?”
Du Nan: “What do you think?”
She sneered. “If there were no issues, do you think I’d deliberately pick on you?”
“...” Bo Ying was speechless. “Nan Jie, that’s not what I meant.”
She thought for a moment, presenting her attitude. “If there’s something wrong, why not tell me directly? I’ll revise it again.”
Upon hearing this, Du Nan chuckled coldly. “Bo Ying, do you think the company and the other party will give you so much time to revise again? When you submitted it, you should have known whether this contract was properly reviewed. You should have checked if your prepared materials were complete when gathering them.”
Bo Ying didn’t want to argue with Du Nan. Before submitting her contract, there was no way any necessary documents were missing.
She nodded. “Sorry, this time it’s my fault.”
She looked at Du Nan. “Nan Jie, did I miss preparing any documents this time?”
Du Nan pointed. “Look for yourself.”
Bo Ying lowered her eyes, quickly scanning through it, and her brows furrowed.
Some documents were missing.
“Do you see clearly what’s missing?” Du Nan asked coldly. “Bo Ying, you’ve been with the company for several months now. How can you still make such mistakes? Do you know that a lawyer must be meticulous and careful? If you forget to prepare important documents, are you just trying to coast along in the company?”
She sneered. “The company isn’t your stage; we don’t need you dressing up flamboyantly. If you spent more time and energy on work, you wouldn’t end up like this.”
Bo Ying didn’t refute her words. She stared at the documents in front of her for a moment, then raised her eyes to look at her. “Du Nan Jie, I’m sure all my documents were included.”
Upon hearing this, Du Nan snickered. “So, are you accusing me of slandering you now?”
“That’s not what I meant.” Bo Ying patiently explained in a gentle voice. “When I handed it over to you, all the documents were organized and clipped together in a folder. Now that they’re missing, is it possible they were accidentally left on the desk?”
Du Nan crossed her arms, looking at her coldly. “Then go back and check. See if I’m wronging you?”
She mocked. “Bo Ying, I don’t have the leisure to do such things. If you forgot, just admit it; don’t try to argue with me. You should be glad the contract was discovered here by me. If it reached the manager, do you think the manager would give you a chance to explain?”
With that, she ignored Bo Ying’s explanations and stood up. “This time, it’s forgiven. If it happens again, don’t waste your time in the company.”
The meeting room door closed, and Bo Ying stood still for a few seconds, blinking at the vigorously growing green plants in front of her.
She took a deep breath, picked up the file with the missing documents, and returned to her desk.
He Jingxiu spent the whole day entertaining clients. When he returned to the company, it was just time to leave work.
“President He.”
“President He is back.”
“...”
From the entrance to the inside, employees greeted him along the way.
He Jingxiu, wearing a shirt and trousers, upright and composed, acknowledged each of them with a nod.
Pei Yunmeng and Fang Boyu were chattering away. As He Jingxiu passed by from the side, he stopped abruptly.
“Pei Yunmeng.”
Pei Yunmeng was startled and turned her head. “President He.”
He Jingxiu looked at her, gesturing. “Everyone has left work?”
Pei Yunmeng was momentarily stunned, then quickly came to her senses. “No, a few colleagues are still working overtime upstairs. President He, do you have anything to convey?”
“No.” He Jingxiu said lightly. “Is Manager Lü around?”
Pei Yunmeng paused. “When we left, Manager Lü and Bo Ying and a few others were still there. Are you looking for Manager Lü?”
He Jingxiu’s expression remained indifferent. “Mm.”
Watching He Jingxiu’s retreating figure enter the elevator, Fang Boyu suspiciously glanced at the two. “Why did you emphasize Bo Ying just now?”
Pei Yunmeng blinked. “Did I?”
Fang Boyu looked at her for a few moments, whispering. “Are you sure President He is looking for Manager Lü and not Bo Ying?”
“...”
Pei Yunmeng choked, glancing at him. “How could that be? Why would President He look for Bo Ying? She’s just a small employee. Even if there’s work-related matters, President He wouldn’t possibly seek her out.”
Fang Boyu was about to ask again when Pei Yunmeng sighed. “Sigh, Bo Ying is still stubbornly refusing to leave work. Should I order her a dessert? Eating might cheer her up.”
After Bo Ying left the meeting room in the morning, her spirit changed once again.
All day long, she hardly spoke, quietly handling her work, making others feel uncomfortable.
When asked what had happened, she didn’t say.
Fang Boyu thought for a moment. “Let’s buy two cups of coffee.”
“Why two cups?”
Fang Boyu: “Are you buying coffee for Bo Ying and not for President He?”
Pei Yunmeng: “...”
It was evening, and Bo Ying turned on the light above her desk.
The light suddenly became bright, and Bo Ying snapped out of her thoughts, immersing herself once again in the litigation contract in front of her.
Once focused, she screened out everything around her.
Not knowing how much time had passed, her stomach started growling. Bo Ying frowned slightly, instinctively reaching for the water on the table when her peripheral vision caught the shadow falling on her desk.
She was momentarily stunned, lifting her head dazedly.
Meeting the familiar face of the man, Bo Ying was surprised. “What are you doing here?”
He Jingxiu stood by her side, holding some of the contracts she had processed.
Hearing her voice, He Jingxiu chuckled softly. “Finally noticed me.”
“...”
Bo Ying was startled. “When did you get here?”
He Jingxiu glanced at his watch and looked at her. “Half an hour ago.”
“? “
Bo Ying’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Why didn’t you call me?”
“I did.”
He Jingxiu said with slight helplessness. “You didn’t respond.”
He knew Bo Ying’s habit; after calling out twice without getting a response, he simply let her be.
Anyway, he had time to stay with her.
Bo Ying “Oh”-ed softly. “I didn’t hear.”
He Jingxiu understood, reaching out to ruffle her hair, gently asking. “Finished? Can you grace me with your presence for dinner tonight?”
Bo Ying looked at him.
He Jingxiu curved his lips slightly. “Giving you the chance to treat your boss who made you work overtime, accept?”
