Psst! We're moving!
The moment she saw the message, Bo Ying was genuinely surprised.
She had shared that song with a specific intention in mind, but she hadn’t expected He Jingxiu to see it so quickly—or to understand its meaning.
This song had been one of her favorites during her school days.
That day on the bus, while He Jingxiu was sleeping, Bo Ying had secretly pulled out her phone and mimicked the couple in front of them. She placed one earphone in her own ear and carefully positioned the other near He Jingxiu’s ear.
At that moment, she wasn’t sure if He Jingxiu could hear the music playing through the earphones.
She kept replaying the same song, alternating between glancing at the person sleeping on her shoulder and looking at the rain-soaked glass window and the people walking along the roadside with umbrellas.
Every scene from that afternoon was etched into her memory like a vivid painting.
While abroad, whenever Bo Ying encountered difficulties or felt down, she would take a bus ride.
Simply sitting on the bus made her troubles seem to disappear without effort.
She often thought of He Jingxiu and that warm, peaceful afternoon.
Suddenly, her phone vibrated again.
Bo Ying snapped out of her thoughts—it was another message from him.
He Jingxiu: [But it’s not raining today. Would you mind?]
Bo Ying couldn’t help but smile faintly: [Of course I’d mind. President He, you’re so wealthy—can’t you create artificial rain like in TV dramas?]
He Jingxiu: [?]
He Jingxiu: [That’s a bit difficult.]
Bo Ying chuckled, reluctantly replying: [Let’s see what the weather decides. If it rains, we’ll go. If it doesn’t… I’ll think about it some more.]
He Jingxiu simply sent back an affirmative “Alright” before returning to his work.
The fact that he saw Bo Ying’s social media post was purely coincidental. He Jingxiu wasn’t at the point of monitoring her posts daily, but he did check occasionally during work hours to see if she had shared anything from the previous night or earlier that morning. It was a glimpse into her life—a collection of her joys and sorrows.
Bo Ying was someone who loved to share. Whether it was delicious food or interesting experiences, she posted them all. This platform served as a record of her emotions, both happy and sad.
Monday’s routine morning meeting left everyone feeling sluggish.
After the meeting, Bo Ying focused on the tasks assigned to her since her return from the business trip. After being away for so long, many things felt slightly unfamiliar.
Her current workload wasn’t particularly taxing. For the most part, she reviewed contracts submitted by her team, sending problematic ones back for revision and approving those without issues to be forwarded to higher-ups.
For now, she hadn’t yet been involved in any of He Corporation’s major legal cases.
But as a newcomer, learning was the priority. Bo Ying wasn’t someone who aimed too high. No matter how excellent her grades had been in school, when she joined the company, she patiently started from scratch.
“What are you busy with?”
Pei Yunmeng, who wasn’t as busy, leaned over to peek at Bo Ying’s focused expression.
Bo Ying pointed. “A land contract. There’s a holdout who refuses to move and has even sued our company.”
“…”
This situation was fairly common. Bo Ying had already seen several similar cases.
Relatively speaking, it was nothing out of the ordinary.
Pei Yunmeng glanced at it, raising her eyebrows. “Du Nan handed this contract over to you?”
Bo Ying nodded. “Yes, why?”
Pei Yunmeng looked around cautiously, lowering her voice. “This contract is considered one of the toughest nuts to crack in our entire department.”
“…” Bo Ying blinked slightly, turning to look at her. “What do you mean?”
“This holdout is different from others,” Pei Yunmeng explained. “Other holdouts usually just want more money or better benefits. But this one isn’t about that. He simply refuses to move. I’m not entirely clear on the specifics, but because of this holdout, construction on that side has been delayed for a long time. While work has started on another section, this remains a challenge for President He and his team.”
Bo Ying understood. She had come across similar cases before.
She glanced at the details on the contract. “But this holdout isn’t young—it’s an elderly grandfather.”
Pei Yunmeng: “Exactly. The lawsuit was filed by his son. Progress has been stagnant for a long time. Many colleagues find it troublesome, so it’s been left untouched. Now that the deadline is approaching, Du Nan passed it on to you.”
Bo Ying: “….”
She fell silent for a moment, rubbing her temples. “Did I offend Sister Nan at some point?”
Pei Yunmeng shrugged, smiling. “What do you think?”
Bo Ying pouted, taking a deep breath. “I’ll try my best to tackle it. Hopefully, I can make progress.”
Pei Yunmeng nodded, winking at her. “If it really doesn’t work out, you can ask President He.”
“Ask him?”
Bo Ying raised an eyebrow skeptically. “He’s not a lawyer.”
“But President He has experience with these kinds of situations,” Pei Yunmeng said, looking at her. “You don’t know about President He’s accomplishments?”
Bo Ying looked blankly at her. “What accomplishments?”
Now it was Pei Yunmeng’s turn to be speechless.
Based on their interactions, she truly believed their relationship had reached the level of deep understanding akin to her brother and Sheng Chun. She never imagined Bo Ying knew nothing.
She let out a soft “Oh,” whispering, “Didn’t you know President He before?”
Bo Ying chuckled, shaking her head. “No.”
She understood Pei Yunmeng’s implication—if she had known He Jingxiu before, how could she not be aware of this?
Bo Ying paused briefly, her voice gentle. “I deliberately avoided following news related to him.”
A long time ago, Bo Ying had always believed that as long as someone was determined, they could accomplish anything.
She loved watching idol dramas and movies. Every time she saw the male lead searching for the female lead year after year without success, she would get frustrated.
Because she believed that with determination, it shouldn’t take a year—half a year would suffice.
Later, she realized that if someone truly wanted to avoid another person or block out all related information, it was indeed possible.
Seeing Bo Ying’s somber expression, Pei Yunmeng didn’t press further.
She nodded. “I’ll find some old reports for you. Once you read them, you’ll understand.”
Bo Ying smiled warmly, her eyes sparkling. “Thank you.”
“No problem.”
In the afternoon, Bo Ying had just finished organizing the contract and was about to take a break to review some past reports on He Jingxiu’s decisions that Pei Yunmeng had sent her.
Just as she was about to open the files, a commotion broke out nearby.
Before Bo Ying could inquire, she heard Zhu Xiaoxia’s voice.
“Guess who I ran into in the elevator?”
“Who? Who?”
“Tan Rui.” Zhu Xiaoxia exclaimed excitedly. “She’s absolutely stunning—like a movie star.”
“Oh my gosh, is she here to see President He?”
“Well, obviously! What else could she be here for?” Zhu Xiaoxia continued. “And I saw her carrying coffee and desserts—it seems she’s planning to have afternoon tea with President He.”
“…”
Hearing this, Bo Ying’s fingers paused, and she closed the file she was about to open.
She had wanted to learn more about He Jingxiu, but now it seemed unnecessary.
Moreover, she glanced at the time displayed on her computer screen. Five o’clock? What kind of afternoon tea was this? Were they skipping dinner altogether?
She muttered under her breath, mentally cursing He Jingxiu a few times.
“Caught a cold?”
Tan Rui asked, looking at the man seated behind a large desk.
She adored seeing He Jingxiu like this—wearing dress pants and a shirt, tie loosened, the top two buttons undone to reveal his Adam’s apple. His sleeves were rolled up to his forearms, showcasing perfectly toned muscles.
Tan Rui knew he loved exercising and dedicated time to running every day. Additionally, he enjoyed basketball, golf, and other sports.
As a result, his physique was impeccable.
His muscle definition was just right—not overly pronounced like a gym instructor’s, which might feel intimidating. Instead, he appeared tall and lean, but beneath his clothes, he was solid and strong.
“No.”
He Jingxiu remained seated, lifting his gaze to look at her. “Is there something you need?”
Tan Rui paused, maintaining her composure. “What else? Would I come to see you for no reason?”
She pulled out a chair opposite him and sat down, producing two documents. “My father asked me to bring these to you. He said you should take a look first.”
He Jingxiu glanced at them and replied directly, “It’s not urgent. You could’ve had someone else deliver them.”
Tan Rui faltered, unsure whether he genuinely didn’t understand why she had come or was pretending to be oblivious.
She hummed softly, tilting her chin upward. “I was bored anyway, so I figured I’d drop by. No big deal.”
The He Corporation and Tan family had maintained business ties for years. Their elders had known each other for decades, and their interests were intertwined.
The two contracts Tan Rui delivered today pertained to a plot of land recently approved by the government. Numerous companies were vying for it, making the competition fierce. Tan Rui’s uncle had connections in this area, allowing him to obtain the latest information.
He Jingxiu nodded, flipping through the documents briefly. “I’ll discuss it with your father after I’ve reviewed it.”
Tan Rui agreed, unfazed by this response.
She pursed her lips, leaning forward slightly. “Are you working overtime tonight?”
He Jingxiu looked at her. “Do you have something else?”
“…” Tan Rui hesitated, then smiled. “I wanted to invite you to dinner. We haven’t eaten together in a long time.”
Fearing rejection, she quickly added, “Luo Xiao and the others will be there too.”
Without hesitation, He Jingxiu declined. “No.”
He closed the documents and set them aside. “I have plans tonight.”
Tan Rui’s expression stiffened slightly, her hands tightening on her lap. She forced a smile, suppressing her irritation. “Then next time?”
He Jingxiu nodded, glancing at Qi Xuezhen, who had just entered. “Escort Miss Tan downstairs.”
Qi Xuezhen: “….”
Tan Rui: “….”
Biting her lip, she stood reluctantly, careful not to reveal her emotions. Softly, she said, “Then I’ll take my leave. Next time, you can’t reject my invitation.”
He Jingxiu nodded, his attention already shifting to the new email he had received.
By the end of the workday, everyone who had finished their tasks was buzzing with speculation about what Tan Rui had been doing in He Jingxiu’s office for so long.
Though Bo Ying knew He Jingxiu had no interest in Tan Rui, hearing the gossip still irritated her.
As soon as it was time to leave, Bo Ying quickly shut down her computer, grabbed her bag, and prepared to leave.
“Yingying.”
Zhu Xiaoxia suddenly called out to her. “You’re leaving already?”
Bo Ying: “Mm, it’s time.”
Zhu Xiaoxia: “….”
Watching Bo Ying’s retreating figure, Zhu Xiaoxia muttered, “She really thinks she’s a princess, leaving exactly on time every day.”
Pei Yunmeng happened to pass by and overheard. Smiling faintly, she said, “This just proves Yingying is highly efficient at work.”
She curved her lips. “Unless the workload exceeds capacity, only those with low efficiency need to work overtime.”
“You—” Zhu Xiaoxia glared at her but dared not say more. Though unclear about Pei Yunmeng’s background, she had heard rumors that she was related to a high-ranking executive in the company.
Pei Yunmeng ignored her and left on time as well.
…
Bo Ying had just arrived on the first floor when He Jingxiu’s message came through.
He Jingxiu: [Have you decided?]
Bo Ying didn’t reply.
After a moment, he sent another message.
He Jingxiu: [It’s not raining. Are we still taking the bus?]
Bo Ying: [Yes.]
He Jingxiu: [Alright, should I wait for you at the entrance?]
Bo Ying: [No need.]
He Jingxiu: [?]
Bo Ying: [I want to ride the bus alone. President He has a driver—he shouldn’t have to squeeze onto a public bus with us common folk.]
The sarcastic message was barely sent before He Jingxiu’s call came through.
Bo Ying huffed, promptly hanging up the call. Out of sight, out of mind.
It took about five or six minutes to walk from the company to the bus stop. As Bo Ying was walking, her phone rang again.
She frowned, intending to hang up, but glanced at the caller ID.
“Hello.”
Bo Ying immediately adopted a serious tone. “Manager Lü.”
Lü Xiuxian: “Bo Ying, are you off work already?”
“Yes.” Bo Ying pursed her lips, speaking softly. “I just reached the company entrance. Is there something you need, Manager?”
Lü Xiuxian sighed. “There’s a document missing. I asked your team leader, and they said you had taken over handling it. Could you come back and look for it?”
“Sure.” Bo Ying didn’t hesitate. “I’ll come back right now.”
“Alright.”
After hanging up, Lü Xiuxian turned to He Jingxiu, wiping the sweat from his forehead. Helplessly, he said, “Jingxiu, I’ve lost face in front of my subordinates now.”
He Jingxiu glanced at him, completely unfazed. “Uncle Lü, Bo Ying isn’t technically your subordinate to begin with.”
Lü Xiuxian: “….”
