Psst! We're moving!
The supernatural incident finally concluded with Ma Wenshan’s broken leg.
Di Jiang and Zhong Xu walked back to their rooms, both harboring lingering doubts.
“Is this Dong Yezhen human or ghost?” Changsheng asked.
Zhong Xu frowned slightly, uttering one word: “Human.”
“Human?!” Wen Yao exclaimed, “How could a human have a green face and fangs, red lips like blood? She was the most terrifying evil ghost in the world! If you hadn’t intervened in time, Ma Wenshan would surely be dead!”
At this moment, Di Jiang shook her head and said gravely, “Precisely because of Zhong Xu’s talisman, it further proves she is a living person.”
“Why?”
“If she were a ghost, how could she escape? The Daoist immobilization talisman had no effect on her, which is ironclad proof that she is not a ghostly entity.”
Zhong Xu nodded, “Doctor Di is correct.”
“It’s getting stranger and stranger. Such things exist in this world; truly, the world is vast and full of wonders.” Wen Yao muttered.
As they spoke, they returned to their respective guest rooms. After bidding farewell with clasped hands, they each retired to rest. This night of折腾 (trouble) made them fall into deep sleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows.
Early the next morning, before dawn, Wen Yao came to Di Jiang’s room and dragged the groggy Di Jiang out of bed, saying she wanted to see Ma Wenshan’s miserable state and mock him thoroughly.
Di Jiang was annoyed by her persistence and had to get up early, skipping breakfast to follow her to Ma Wenshan’s quarters.
Outside the厢房 (side room), a squad of heavily armed guards stood watch. All wore armor, carried long spears, and had daggers at their waists, appearing as if facing a great enemy, burdened with heavy thoughts.
Seeing this, Wen Yao chuckled, unable to straighten up from laughter, “Boss, it seems Ma Wenshan has been scared witless! Isn’t he supposed to be a profound Daoist master? Yet, he needs these shrimp soldiers and crab generals for protection—it’s hilarious!”
“Indeed,” Di Jiang became interested, finally regaining her spirits from the early wake-up.
Pretending to be completely unaware, Di Jiang and her servant approached Ma Wenshan’s door and asked the servants outside, “What happened to Master Ma? Why is today’s atmosphere in Dong Family Fortress so tense?”
The servants didn’t even glance at Di Jiang, let alone answer her questions.
“We’re asking you a question; why are you so impolite?” Wen Yao scolded harshly, ready to resort to violence again.
Just then, Ma Wenshan’s door suddenly creaked open. Dong Biling and Dong Liancheng emerged from the room one after another. Upon seeing Di Jiang and Wen Yao, both were startled. Behind them was an old man carrying a medicine box, seemingly a colleague of Di Jiang.
“Miss Di? What brings you here...” Dong Biling looked pale and somewhat frightened, evading Di Jiang’s gaze as if afraid she would ask about something.
Di Jiang smiled faintly, “I just felt the atmosphere in the mansion was a bit off today. I also heard that last night, Master Ma broke his leg, so I came to offer my condolences.”
“Oh, it’s nothing serious. Master Ma slipped and injured his left leg due to the dark and slippery path. He just fell asleep and needs rest; you shouldn’t disturb him.”
“Miss is right. We’ll take our leave then.”
“Goodbye, no need to see us off.” After Dong Biling finished speaking, she glanced at Dong Liancheng and the doctor. The two followed Dong Biling away.
Throughout, Dong Liancheng never acknowledged Di Jiang and Wen Yao, finding even a glance unnecessary.
Wen Yao naturally sensed his unfriendliness, as did Di Jiang. But they were merely guests, unknown and insignificant. It was natural for the eldest young master of Dong Family Fortress to ignore them.
Watching the trio walk away, Wen Yao wondered, “I can’t understand why they seem completely indifferent about Dong Yezhen’s death. Moreover, since Dong Yezhen was a Miss of the Dong family, why does she threaten to take the entire fortress down with her? Could there be some hidden story?”
“To uncover any hidden story, we should go and see.” Di Jiang finished speaking, pulled Wen Yao’s hand, and walked to a pillar, concealing themselves before boldly following behind.
Dong Biling and Dong Liancheng returned together to her courtyard, then dismissed everyone, leaving only the doctor.
“Are you sure you didn’t misdiagnose?” Dong Liancheng frowned.
The doctor nodded, “I have practiced medicine for many years and have never made a mistake.”
“Good, you may leave. Remember to keep your mouth shut; this matter must not be known by a fourth person.”
“I understand.”
After the doctor left, Dong Biling immediately collapsed emotionally and slapped Dong Liancheng across the face, “It’s all your fault!” Dong Biling had been experiencing morning sickness for several days. That day, while the doctor treated Ma Wenshan’s leg injury, he also checked Dong Biling’s pulse, discovering she was pregnant. Initially surprised, she then became anxious.
“Sister Biling, listen to me...”
“Don’t call me! I told you not to... to...” Dong Biling blushed and stopped mid-sentence.
Hiding behind the tree, Di Jiang and Wen Yao mentally jolted, hearing what seemed to be an unavoidable major issue. They exchanged glances, and just as Wen Yao was about to speak, Di Jiang covered her mouth, signaling her to listen carefully and not lose focus.
“What should I do now? How will I live afterward?” Dong Biling furrowed her brows and raised her right hand, slapping Dong Liancheng hard across the cheek once more.
“Sister Biling, it’s my fault. But isn’t having a child a joyful thing?” Dong Liancheng suddenly embraced Dong Biling’s shoulders, “You and I are destined to marry eventually. Having a child means giving birth to it; I will take responsibility for you!”
“How will you take responsibility for me? Like you did for Sister?” Dong Biling struggled, biting Dong Liancheng’s hand angrily, “Unmarried pregnancy... I don’t want to be the next to die!”
“How could you die! You are the person I love the most; how could I bear to let you die!” Ignoring the pain in his hand, Dong Liancheng lifted her head, pressing his lips to hers, kissing her tenderly, “Dong Yezhen herself secretly mated with ghosts; she deserved to die. You are different. You are the person I love the most, the mother of my child. Together, we stand openly; I won’t let anyone bully you...”
Dong Biling almost melted into boundless sweetness. Dong Liancheng’s words acted like a calming pill, dispelling all her doubts.
While they kissed, Di Jiang and Wen Yao were utterly dumbfounded.
Dong Liancheng and Dong Biling kissed breathlessly, losing track of time. When they finished, Dong Biling chuckled, “I was just joking with you. Hitting you was just to test your reaction, provoking you intentionally. Brother, don’t be angry with me, alright?”
Dong Liancheng’s expression stiffened, then he smiled gently, “You, always so playful.”
“I’m not afraid of others talking. In this Xianliang City, Father is the law; who dares say a bad word about me?” Dong Biling smiled but quickly sobered, “However… I’m worried about something else.”
“You mean Dong Yezhen?”
Dong Biling nodded, “She lingers so persistently; she might be difficult to deal with. Should we invite a few more Daoist masters to seal her forever, ensuring she can’t harm anyone anymore?”
“No need,” Dong Liancheng shook his head, “With Ma Wenshan around, she wouldn’t dare to act recklessly.”
“But Master Ma has broken his leg. Perhaps we should ask the Daoist Zhong in the厢房 (side room); he seems to possess considerable magical powers.”
“How can we trust wild people? They probably just come to swindle money.” Dong Liancheng shook his head, indicating disapproval.
“I don’t care! Anyway, I don’t want to hear Dong Yezhen’s name again. If Ma Wenshan can’t handle her, I’ll definitely find the most profound sorcerer to ensure she never reincarnates!”
“Lower your voice!”
“What’s there to fear? No one else is in this courtyard; even if there were, they’d all be my people!”
Seeing her unruly demeanor, Dong Liancheng felt a hint of anger and growled under his breath, “Stop acting like a child! I’ll handle this matter; you needn’t worry. Besides, you’re going to be a mother soon. After the child is born, if you remain so impulsive, how will you discipline him?”
“Aren’t there still you and Father and Mother? If I can’t manage well, you’ll always help me, right?” Seeing Dong Liancheng genuinely angry, Dong Biling pouted prettily, coquettishly pleading, “You won’t abandon me, right?”
“You…” Dong Liancheng looked helpless, unwilling to reprimand further. With his left hand, he gently embraced her shoulder, letting her head rest against him, softly saying, “Even if I forsake everyone in the world, I won’t forsake you.”
“Really?”
“Of course, don’t you believe me? Feel my heart; see if it’s entirely devoted to you?” With his other free hand, Dong Liancheng grasped Dong Biling’s right hand, leading it down his chest until it rested on the hardened object between his legs. The hot, burning sensation startled Dong Biling, making her blush and scold him repeatedly, “Brother, you’re wicked!”
“You don’t like it?” Dong Liancheng narrowed his eyes.
Dong Biling pouted, shaking her head, “No.”
“Truly?”
“Truly.” Dong Biling nodded.
Subsequently, Dong Liancheng kissed Dong Biling’s lips, pinning her beneath him.
“Oh, Brother… no…” Dong Biling’s weak protests were quickly drowned in Dong Liancheng’s endless tenderness and skill. She felt like she was melting into water, her body limp on the grass, surrendering completely to Dong Liancheng’s desires.
“Soaked with so much water, yet you claim dislike.” Dong Liancheng’s right fingers were wet. Without hesitation, he brought them to his lips, licking them clean bit by bit, then said, “Sister Biling is truly fragrant.”
“Brother…”
“Next time, don’t speak insincerely, or I won’t be able to restrain myself.” After finishing, Dong Liancheng redressed Dong Biling properly and helped her up.
Dong Biling paused, “Brother, you don’t want me?”
“I do, I dream of it,” Dong Liancheng curved his brows, softly saying, “But no matter how much I desire, I must consider your body. You are pregnant now; I can’t let you suffer any harm, not even the slightest.”
“Brother…” Dong Biling’s nose tingled, her eyes reddening, “I won’t throw tantrums anymore. I believe in you; I believe you will protect me. It was Dong Yezhen who deserved to die; I shouldn’t blame you!”
“Alright, stop mentioning her. No one will disrupt our happiness anymore.” As Dong Liancheng spoke, he embraced Dong Biling, gently stroking her back to soothe her unsettled heart.
In the bushes across the river, Wen Yao covered her eyes the entire time, unable to witness the lewd acts of these two in broad daylight without regard for propriety. Meanwhile, Di Jiang kept her eyes wide open, watching them intently with a grave expression.
“Now I finally understand why Dong Biling remains tight-lipped about Dong Yezhen’s death and why Dong Liancheng shows no concern over her demise.” Di Jiang sighed, her face ashen.
“Why?”
“Because… the child in Dong Yezhen’s womb might also belong to Dong Liancheng.”
After Di Jiang finished speaking, Wen Yao fell into prolonged shock, snapping out of it after a long while, exclaiming, “Dong Liancheng dared not spare even his own sister! How can there be such shameless scum in this world!”
“Looking at their relationship, they resemble lovers more than siblings. Go to the city and inquire; probe the public sentiment. Investigate the true relationships among the three Dong siblings.”
Wen Yao nodded firmly, “I’ll go now!”
