In the new academic year 2024/25, our primary focus at ASPS is on enhancing learning skills across the school. But what does this mean in practice? How will this shift affect students, teachers and the broader school community? Watch the video to gain a comprehensive understanding of our new priorities and the strategies we will implement.
At ASPS we remain committed to high quality, affordable education and strive to offer exceptional value for families who choose to send their children to Al Salam School. We continue to raise our aspirations for improving quality and investing in the staff, resources, facilities and opportunities to provide our students with a world-class education.
The KHDA have given approval for schools to raise their fees for next year based on the outcome of their inspection. Please visit the KHDA Fee Fact Sheet for further details on ASPS fees for the next academic year.

On Wednesday 5th June 2024 there was a very special ceremony in which the school community celebrated what we have been doing together to improve all aspects of our school life.
The MPS at school was festooned with blue balloons and a tasty breakfast was put on for the parents, students and staff who have served our community in such special ways in these three groups:
PALS (Parents of Al Salam)
GAB (Governing Advisory Board)
PSF (Parent School Forum)
The GAB is formed of parents, students, management and staff who all work together to meet school targets as defined in the School Action Plan and the Development Plan agreed with the KHDA to improve our school’s performance in every area. GAB has helped significantly in reaching - and exceeding - our goals in Reading, Wellbeing, and Learning Skills this year.
The PSF is the new development in the last year, the parent - school link which has had a very big impact on the way parents and school communicate with each other this year - and have greatly enhanced our ability to respond quickly to urgent needs, as well as sort out many things that need longer term solutions together.
PALS is our oldest community group which has also excelled this year in making wonderful events possible, including such special ones as the National Day, the International Day and the Ramadan Iftar.
I hope you are well aware of these three groups and become involved in their activities next academic year!
Here’s what our parents said about the event:
We at GAB would like to express our genuine appreciation and gratitude to the management for taking the time and efforts to make such a lovely and memorable event possible.
The number of attendees from all the three respective groups at the event was much appreciated and contributed to its success. We all had much fun and a lovely exclusive breakfast at the Appreciation Day. We connected to each other and look forward to meet each other often more.
The breakfast was not only delicious but also provided a wonderful opportunity for parents to connect with one another and with the school management in a relaxed and welcoming environment. It is clear that a great deal of effort and thought went into planning and executing this event, and for that, we are truly grateful.
Moreover, the forum for parents to share their views and suggestions was highly appreciated. It reinforced the school's commitment to fostering a collaborative community where the perspectives of parents are valued and considered. This open line of communication is crucial in ensuring that our children receive the best possible education and support.
Thank you once again for your dedication and hard work in making this event a success. We look forward to many more such opportunities for engagement and collaboration in the future.
If you would like to know more about these three groups and how they have worked this year, and why we celebrated their amazing achievements, please do check out this presentation.
It has come to our attention that some students are engaging in activities on social media that may not be appropriate for their age or level of maturity. This can lead to various issues, including cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content and other negative influences and can result in legal action. As a school, we have taken several steps to make our children aware of the risks and safeguard them.
Parents are responsible for their child's social media activity outside of school hours. Whilst we educate students about responsible online behavior, we rely on your partnership to reinforce these values and ensure your child's online safety.
Most social media platforms require users to be at least 13 years old due to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Here are the age requirements for some popular platforms:
Facebook: 15+ years old
Instagram: 15+ years old
Twitter: 15+ years old
Snapchat: 16+ years old
TikTok: 15+ years old
YouTube: 13+ years old (with a parent’s permission, children under 13 can use YouTube Kids)
WhatsApp: 14+ years old
As we discussed in the parent awareness session, sometimes the listed age limits on these apps are not suitable for our children. It is better to make an informed decision about the platforms that your child is engaging in after looking them up on websites such as https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ and others.
These age limits protect younger users' privacy and safety. Please monitor your child's social media use and ensure they are mature enough for these responsibilities.
The school primarily communicates with parents via email to their parent code (PCODE) accounts. We have noticed instances where some parents have shared these account details with their children, resulting in the children diverting, deleting, and even misusing the account to communicate with the school. Therefore, we kindly request that parents ensure the security of their parent code by changing the password to a more complex one and not sharing it with anyone, especially children.
We have introduced Blocksi on all school managed devices. Blocksi has two main features.
Inside the classroom, the teachers can view and monitor the screens of students’ Chromebooks during the lesson time, and if necessary, lock them on to a particular URL for the duration of the lesson. This is particularly helpful to avoid distractions during the lesson and during assessments. This level of control is only during school hours when the device is in school and is connected to the internet.
Blocksi has a feature that acts as a safe search filter on student devices. An alert is sent to the IT manager and the Child Protection Officer if a student searches or shares something that falls under the following four categories - cyberbullying and abuse, self-harm, threat or violence, and adult or inappropriate content. The Child Protection Officer deals with these alerts and addresses them to students and parents as needed.
We have conducted awareness assemblies with our students on the risks associated with social media and on the dos and don’ts of online behaviours. We will continue to have these sessions aimed at starting conversations around digital safety and exercising caution when interacting with people online.
We had a parent talk on Digital Safeguarding on Thursday, 6th of June this week, where this topic was discussed. Mr Hussein, our IT Manager, discussed the risks that children are exposed to when online and suggested several ways that parents can take control of their children’s digital worlds and play an active part in keeping them safe online. The prevalence and dangers of children as young as ten having access to inappropriate online content was emphasized and the school’s use of safeguarding software such as Blocksi was discussed.
If you missed the online session, you can find the recording of the talk here: Digital Safeguarding - Taking Control of Our Children's Online World - Parent Talk

Please provide your feedback to this session and let us know if you have any remaining concerns that we did not yet address.
The Read Before You Leave Challenge for Years 1 to 9, which began in October as a (school) year-long initiative, will conclude on 14th June. Each student was assigned a copy of the book list in the Form Google Classroom to tick off as they complete each book. We hope you have enjoyed the challenge and discovered a love for reading through this experience.
Thank you for your dedication and enthusiasm throughout this challenge.
Current Year 4 students moving to Year 5 have the option to choose between French and Quran classes for the next academic year. To help us plan accordingly, we request that you indicate your child's preference by completing the form below by 10th June. Key details can be found within the form.
Kindly note that only parents of current Year 4 students transitioning to Year 5 should fill in this form.
The external benchmark assessments (GL Progress Tests) and internal end of year exams will start from Thursday 6th June 2024.
Please note that we will follow the regular school day schedule during examination weeks. Kindly ensure that your children arrive at school promptly and are collected at the end of the school day.
The attainment grades for the internal assessments will be shared with parents via the end of year report cards on Friday 5th July. This will be followed by an online Parent-Teacher Meeting on Monday 8th July.
We would like to remind parents that if a student has any signs of sickness such as coughing, fever or anything that could be considered to be contagious then they should not be sent to school for their assessments.
Should your child become ill in the assessment period, please note of the following:
Parents/legal guardians will be asked to submit a medical report from the doctor, which recommends the leave is needed. Once received we can look into authorising the absence. Students who are absent without a medical note will be given a zero in their examination.
The medical report submitted should be current dated and issued by a medical practitioner from within the country and be provided to the school in a timely manner.
If a student arrives at school and is found to be exhibiting any such symptoms, the student will be sent home without completing their assessments.
Students who have arrived at school and have been sent home by the School Clinic will be classed as a medical absence for the day and the student will be given their overall grade based upon their formative assessments.
Please note that examinations will not be administered in the clinic and we are unable to reschedule assessments.
A reminder that school breaks are mandated and approved by the KHDA for private schools in Dubai and these dates are not proposed by the school but are set according to the KHDA guidelines. We strongly advise parents to schedule vacations or travel plans during the designated school holidays to ensure compliance with attendance requirements.
