Mon, 2/18: NO SCHOOL!
Tues 2/19: Journal #2: 750 words. Optional topic: go to a cafe and listen to people's dialogue. You might write down snippets of their speech or simply make notes on the way people talk. Also, observe the gestures and movement and facial expressions that accompany the way people converse.
Also, read "Hills Like White Elephants" in your reader. Pay attention to how Hemingway uses dialogue to craft his story.
Thurs, 2/21: Read Chapter 3, "Building Character: Characterization Part 1" (73-89) in Writing Fiction. Please read this chapter carefully!
Also, be working on your 900 word story due Monday, 2/25.
Fri, 2/22: Write a "no" dialogue using rejection therapy! Make a crazy request of someone a la Jia Jiang and then write a dialogue based on the incident. Take a look at Jia Jiang's website for more examples of his making outlandish requests: http://www.entresting.com/blog/100-days-of-rejection-therapy/
The crazier the request, the better.
At the same time, be sensitive so that you don't offend someone.
Please bring a copy of the dialogue you've written to class so we can read it out loud. (You'll post it later).
Word count: 500 words.
