Thursday 11/6--Read and mark Odyssey Book 19 and writing exercise t.b.a. (postponed till next week)

Friday 11/7--Quiz on Chapter 9 of Vocab Energizers.

  • Also, read about subjective complements (predicate nouns and predicate adjectives) in PDF files of HGW (30 middle-31).

  • Bring pink workbook to class.

Monday 11/10--Read and mark Odyssey Book 20.

Tuesday 11/11--Read and mark Odyssey Book 21.

Wednesday 11/12--No class: INTERNATIONAL DAY

Thursday 11/13--Read and mark Odyssey Book 22. Writing exercise on honor--see Canvas. S

Friday 11/14--Read and mark Odyssey Book 23.

Monday 11/17--Finish The Odyssey (Book 24).

    • We'll do a Harkness discussion today. Please think about the following:

      • Is the ending to The Odyssey a satisfying one or not?

      • How do you end cycles of violence in a community?

Tuesday 11/18--Writing workshop day.

    • Write THREE possible themes for your Homeric segment

      • If you know, you might say where in the Odyssey you are putting your segment (it's okay not to know this yet)

    • Do a 150 word freewrite on EACH of your three themes/ideas for your segment

    • If you've already begun your segment and know your topic, then please discuss with me after class what you'd like to work on instead

    • Homework level: S (with effort)

Wednesday 11/19--Writing workshop day.

    • Write 20-25 lines of your fragment (draft): S (with effort)

Thursday 11/20--Finish draft of your fragment and start on your Translator's Note.

Friday 11/21--Quiz on Vocab 10 and work on your Homeric segment. Finish your Translator's Note.

  • In class, you'll read a partner's segment and give her/him some tips for revision.

Monday 11/24: Homeric segment due: Homeric segment E
