Weeks 13, 14, and 15: Revision and Workshopping

Mon 4/22--S: Read the revision chapter in Burroway's Writing Fiction.

Weds 4/24--L:

    • Bring Burroway to class

  • Read: "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love" in reader, 105-115.

Thurs 4/25 (Block E) or Fri 4/26 (Block D)--L:

  • Look at the original version of the story (but you don't have to read it super-carefully) and compare with the edited version.

    • Here's the original version of "What We Talk About" without the editorial comments:

    • Compare the edited version with the original version of "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love":

      • Please note some of the key differences between the stories and write about them on Canvas

        • Please post these differences under the proper period in the "Discussions" section of Canvas: Discussion Section

    • Also, for those who are interested, click here to check out some letters that Carver wrote to Lish regarding their relationship.

    • Minimum word count (your own original words): 250 words

Mon 5/6 S: Read "Revisioning the Great Gatsby" in your reader: 47-57.

    • Think about what makes for a great writer-editor relationship.

    • Please look at the manuscript version (earlier draft) of The Gatsby here.

      • Thank you, Dr. P, for finding and copying this manuscript!

    • Compare this draft with the published version of Gatsby

      • Write down three differences you noted between the draft and the final version and post them here (under the correct block)
