Thurs 3/7--Read and take notes on Gatsby, Chapt. 3.
Fri 3/8--Writing assignment:
Step 1: Find, re-read, and mark-up passages describing:
Daisy and Tom Buchanan's house
AND
Gatsby's house
Step 2: Write a thesis statement in which you articulate a significant difference between the two residences.
Step 3: Pick at least TWO quotations from the novel, write them out, and analyze them in support of your thesis.
Word count: 300 words (not including quotations)

Tues 3/12--Read and take notes on Gatsby, Chapt. 4.
Weds 3/13--Choose ONE of the following assignments and post on your personal homework page:
1. Passage analysis: Analyze ONE of the two main paragraphs on page 64 of The Great Gatsby ("He was balancing himself . . ." or "I'd seen it. Everybody had seen it . . ."). Pick at least THREE key words from the passage and suggest what these words say about Gatsby and/or an important theme of the novel.
2. Creative assignment: write a journal entry from either Gatsby's or Daisy's perspective about the moment they spent together in the "white roadster by the curb" (74) back in October of 1917. What made the moment so magical for the character you chose? What does your character see in the other one? Why are they so much in love?
Word count for either choice: 300 words.

Fri 3/15--Read and take notes on Gatsby, Chapt. 6.
Mon 3/18--Writing assignment: passage analysis. 300 of your own words. Please post on your personal homework page:

Weds 3/27--Freewrite on TWO or MORE of the Gatsby essay topics.

You can write a little on all five topics or pick two to focus on.

Please post your revision of the essay on your homework site along with the original draft (make sure my comments are visible). You must make the changes and fixes I've suggested as well as any others that, in your opinion, will make the essay better.

Find THREE rich, meaty quotations that you feel relate to a topic you're interested in.
Analyze each quotation, selecting out specific words to investigate and explore in detail.
