Weeks 7-8
Mon 10/3--No homework. Bring your blue story reader to class.
Tu 10/4--Re-read/review “The Red Convertible," thinking about the question below:
"Why does Lyman release the car into the river?"
This will be the question you'll answer in your paragraph due Thursday
Note: the following assignment might change, depending on what we do Monday in class:
Please do a 300 word freewrite on "The Red Convertible" that you'll post on Canvas
By "freewrite," I mean just jot down ideas about the question without worrying about grammar, spelling, etc. The goal is to write quickly and fluidly--just "vomit" ideas out onto the screen.
Don't use bullet points; write in sentences (but the sentences don't have to be good)
You can use dictation software if you'd like
Before OR after doing your freewrite, write a very quick working thesis answering the essay question "Why does Lyman release the car into the river at the conclusion of the story?"
Time for assignment: 30-40 minutes (no more!)
Review of thesis handout is here
Weds 10/5--Optional (but recommended if you scored 82 or less on the grammar test): Common Classroom: Parts of Speech Grammar Review
Note: if you scored below 80 on the grammar test, you don't have to go to Common Classroom, but you must contact a writing center coach to review parts of speech.
