Mon 12/3: Read Bel Canto, Chapter 1. Please keep track of how long the assignment takes you.

Tues 12/4: Read Bel Canto, Chapter 2 (38 pages).

Thurs 12/6: Read Bel Canto, Chapter 3; response due. Student teaching: Lukas, Colin//Allie, Dylan.

Fri 12/7: Read Bel Canto, Chapter 4. In-class reading day: Chapter 5.

Mon 12/10: Read Bel Canto, Chapter 6; student teaching: Emmy, Alejandro//Saehee, Elizabeth

Tues 12/11: Read Bel Canto, Chapter 7.

Thurs 12/13: Read Bel Canto, Chapter 8; student teaching: Hannah, Helen//Brittany, Linda.

    • Response topic: As your character (the one to whom you've been assigned), write a letter to the outside.

      • Note that "the outside" can be a specific person (e.g. Thibault's wife) or just the general "outside."

    • Word count: 300 words.

    • Please note that this should go under responses, not your journal (this one really isn't personal, so it's fun for everyone to read them.

Mon 12/17: Finish Bel Canto, Chapter 10 and epilogue.

    • Questions to consider as you finish the novel: What moral questions does the novel raise for you? For your character? How will your character be changed by this experience? What would justice look like at the end of the novel?

Tues 12/18: Writing workshop

Thurs 12/20: Revision of at-home personal essay due (please see below for instructions on your revision).

Mon 1/7: Reflections and review

Tues 1/8: Read the study guide AND on the response site, please post THREE possible essay questions based on the guidelines for Part II of the exam (comparative essay on a broad theme).

Thurs 1/9: On the response site, please answer one of the questions posted on the response site for Tuesday. 350 words.

Fri 1/10: No class
