For Thurs, 1/9—Read and mark up “Oranges” (25). Please do a 300 word freewrite on the poem exploring the following questions:

  • What is an important conflict or contrast in the poem?

  • What poetic devices illustrate this conflict or contrast?

  • How does this conflict or contrast relate to the theme of the poem?

Please post your freewrite on your homework website!

For Fri, 1/10—In-class essay on a poem at sight.

  • Also, please re-read your TWO poetry essays (before and after break) and decide which one you want to submit to me.

    • If you wish, you can show your essays to someone else to get feedback on which one is better. I recommend asking a classmate who is familiar with the two poems.
