Edutopia Video
Here's the video I did for Edutopia (the part of the video that I'm in starts about halfway through, at 3:47):
Edutopia did a piece about collaborative learning at College Prep and featured my teaching along with that of a colleague named Betsy Thomas in the Math Dept.
The video depicts me using the Harkness technique. The Harkness technique, started at Phillips Exeter Academy, is a method of teaching used to promote active discussion in the classroom. One student acts as moderator, while another student takes notes, and a third charts the flow of the conversation. Although the Harkness technique is only one of the many techniques and tools I use in the classroom, it is one of my favorites and reflects my firm belief that students should be actively engaged in learning from one another.
I hope you enjoy it!
